There are 14 stages to go through which doesn’t take terribly long to accomplish, but you can revisit previously completed stages to try for a faster time. And there are plenty of things you’ll miss on the first go around due to initially having limited parts. Sprucing up your ship with the cool technology unlocked later on in the game makes it worth going back to check out where else you can use it. Bob Came in Pieces oozes creativity and rewards you for noodling around to your heart’s content. It’s easy to get into but hard to stop playing once you’ve been hooked.
Bob Came in Pieces is an intelligent puzzle/adventure that challenges players to be creative to be successful, and, in doing so, is wonderfully entertaining. Not everyone will find the game’s true depth, but dedicated players will find countless hours of fun. The enchanting visuals and music are the icing on a cleverly designed cake, and it’s well worth the ten dollars.
Overall, for a game that only costs a few quid from Steam, Bob Came in Pieces is a great little addition to anyone’s collection. It’s a game that’s wonderfully good fun, and the ability to open it up in windowed mode means it is ideal for those times when you are supposed to be working. So keep the spreadsheet in the background and play Bob, when the boss makes their way around, just Alt-Tab.
Out Of Eight
Despite the premise of custom ship design, the limited number of elements (pipes, rockets, and push/pull beams) means most of your creations will end up accomplishing the same thing, just in different directions. There is also a lot of guessing as to what exact configuration you need for the next level: you might end up retrying levels several times before getting the setup right. That said, the game does feel unique, thanks to some innovative puzzles and full freedom to use your admittedly limited tool set as you desire. The fourteen levels are over too quickly, and future expansions (wink wink) would hopefully add more content for ship design. Most of the puzzle elements require one solution, so it’s a matter of making a good design and controlling your ship. This linearity tends to cut down on replay value, but Bob Came in Pieces is certainly fun while it lasts. If you like platform and puzzle games, the ship design of Bob Came in Pieces delivers $10 worth of unique fun.

It can be said that Bob Came In Pieces is not the most exciting game ever made. In fact, it will hardly raise the pulse at all. But sometimes that is okay and enjoying a relaxing couple of levels may be just what the doctor ordered. The game is bright, colouful and finished to a high standard. If you fancy toning down the action and enjoying a game that is inoffensive, yet challenging enough to prevent the onset of sleep, then you could do much worse than Bob Came In Pieces.
