Trivia
Pre-Engineering Software Corporation sent the author, Alex Austin, an e-mail that the name "Bridge Builder*" was trademarked, and demanded an end to Bridge Builder's distribution.
Alex and his friend, Ben Nichols, then founded Chronic Logic and renamed the "sequel" to Bridge Builder "Pontifex", which is Latin for "bridge builder". :-D
Bridge Builder was able to spawn a franchise... It was followed by Bridge Construction Kit and Pontifex (Latin for "bridge builder"). Those programs took the program into 3D and added more types of bridges such as suspension bridges and so on.
The game was initially only for the developer and his friends, but they decided to make it public, so that a few others could also enjoy it. Shortly after that, they had to take it off their T1 server connection due to its large bandwidth demands.
