DescriptionIn Bus-Simulator 2009, the player takes the role of the manager and driver of a bus company. The main part of the game is the driving simulation. The player drives in the fictional city of Rheinburg, which is based on Cologne.
There are 10 predefined bus lines through the city. The player has to try and stick to the course and the timetable. Most tasks of a real bus driver are present and assigned to a button, such as making announcements or selling tickets. If the player violates traffic laws, e.g. driving over pedestrians or crashing into other vehicles, he has to pay a fee. Apart from regular duty on city bus lines, there are also one-off missions to complete, such as driving a tour group to an attraction. Players can also freely explore the city, and at any point leave their bus to find another one at one of their depots, or head for the end of a line and start duty.
The managerial part is simple and mainly consists of buying new buses (12 models overall, 14 with patch 1.1) with earned money, maintaining them (their condition worsens when used) and taking on new lines and special missions. The correct model has to be used for each assignment, e.g. a public service vehicle can't be used for overland drives. The game also includes an editor where new bus lines in the city can be created by setting waypoints and a list of stations to service.
