Much of the American Campaign was influenced by "Band of Brothers".
The British attack on the Pegasus Bridge was depicted in the film "The Longest Day" in a very similar manner.
The raid on the Eder Dam mentions the Bomber attack in 1943. This was depicted in the film "The Dambusters". The game nicely recreated the dam.
Call of Duty was ranked # 20 in the 50 Best Games of All Time list published by PC Gamer Magazine in its April 2005 issue.

Much of the excellent voice-acting was provided by actors who had previously played roles in the popular Steven Spielberg WW2 TV series "Band-of-Brothers".
When the battle on the Russian front starts, the first few missions are almost identical to the scenes in the movie Enemy at the Gates.
