Trivia

OEM versions

This game had some trouble finding an audience. The Rendition 3D graphics were the most important selling point, but the game had been bundled with The Screamin 3D, Intense 3D, Total 3D, and Magic Video 3D cards, so the owners of the 3D Blaster PC were the only ones not to have this version already, while most racing fans already had the original game, IndyCar Racing II.

Title change

Even though the game was re-released only one year and a half after the original one, the name had to be changed due to a dispute. Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Tony George sought more control over the sport and announced in March 1994 the formation of the Indy Racing League, reserving most of the spots in the Indianapolis 500 for his American-based overall series. He said his goals were to lower costs and develop more appeal for American-based sponsors and fans. In reaction, the team owners who controlled CART objected, announcing a boycott of the 1996 Indianapolis 500. CART held the U.S. 500 to compete with Indy, and that way a wedge was driven between the fans.

To comply with the license, the title became CART Racing.
