I am a big fan of the Casebook series, and I'm always thrilled to learn of new episodes. They demonstrate an unusual and very valuable trait - independent games that are heavy on content and atmosphere. Few developers are willing or able to invest so much of their resources on this level of graphical output, so Casebook stands out as something different on the video footage alone - but I'm surprised more reviewers don't comment on the use of "areography", the rendering of the crime scenes as searchable locations. The commitment and attention to detail shown by the developers is commendable and I wish them great success. Besides anything else, I'm already eager for Episode IV!

All in all, I have found Casebook Episode III: Snake in the Grass very interesting and well worth my time. The story, characters, and dialog are all top notch and professionally done. The game is also paced quite well, and the grand finale is well worth the effort it takes to see it.

Overall, Casebook Episode III offers a good story, but not quite as much gameplay as would be expected. It still stays true to the unique fundamentals at its core in simulating crime scene investigation, which is still welcoming to new players. However, new players would probably be better off playing a different title from the series first (like the free introductory chapter Episode 0 - Case of the Missing Urn), as Episode III is more suitable for returning fans and veterans.

Like its episodic predecessors, Snake in the Grass will grab your attention and keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s a bit disappointing to see the steps back in terms of challenge and gameplay variety, but this third installment has the best story of the three episodes, and the supporting characters are interesting and suspicious enough to hold your attention fast. The atmosphere is captivating through the whole adventure, the cinematic quality consistently high, and the finale is truly inspired. Let’s just hope it doesn’t represent the end of this fine independent series.
