So, if you're looking for a totally solid shooter with a fine storyline and a completely unexpected ending, then give Chaser a try. Sleepless nights guaranteed.

Whilst Chaser can't be regarded as a classic it certainly is one of the better FPS games of recent times. There are a few bugs though and some people who buy the game will need to download the patch so that your PC will recognise that the CD-ROM is in the drive (a problem one of our systems had). An enjoyable single-player experience that lasts approximately 20+ hours and a solid multiplayer experience make this a FPS that most of you will enjoy.

These sorts of things help make the gun battles in this game genuinely visceral and exciting--much more so than in many shooters. On the other hand, with its hodgepodge setting, clunky story, and minor bugs, Chaser certainly isn't the slickest or most imaginative shooter out there. But despite its surface flaws, Chaser has what ultimately counts the most: a core of exciting, addictive action.

Chaser is quite hard to rate. I'd say that Chaser is fairly entertaining game with a good plot, some fun and excellent for 56kers in multiplayer, but doesn't show us anything we haven't already seen before.

From Slovakian developer Cauldron comes a surprisingly solid and extremely large shooter that really suffers from only one major flaw — one that’s rife with irony when you consider the game’s premise.

Overall, Chaser is a resoundingly average shooter. It has its flashes of brilliance, flashes of idiocy, but overall, it rounds out to be a run of the mill shooter. It does have a bit going for it in the likes of running smoothly and without much error beyond clipping issues when your bad guy dies a static death, but still a fully average title on the whole. It is worth about $15 if you can find it for that. Otherwise, hold out and get something better.

All in all, it is actually a quite fun game now and then, with some dull parts, which means that if you are a FPS-fan and can stand running around looking for switches and the occasional keycard along with some stupid level design, this would be your game.

The long and short of it is, while this game isn't necessarily bad, it simply doesn't have much going for it. And with a slew of incredible first-person shooters just around the corner (Half-Life 2, Doom 3, Halo, Deus Ex 2, the list goes on and on), there's many other titles you should be saving your hard-earned money for.

Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
In the end, Chaser is a decent action shooter. It combines an interesting plot with nonstop action in a coherent matter. However, the complete absence of innovation, linear levels, tepid multiplayer, irritating vocal effects, and unspectacular artificial intelligence keep this title from reaching its potential. Neither the graphics nor the audio is enough to set this offering apart from the pack. If you need your first-person shooter fix, and have already played through Halo, then purchasing this will not be disappointing, but otherwise I would wait to see what comes next around the bend.

When you get down to the basics, Chaser doesn't offer any particular innovations in terms of gameplay. The plot is interesting though, and it can keep you playing for a while. Visually, the game has a few nice moments, but could definitely use more features that are in line with today's standards. Sadly, thanks to several technical mishaps, topped with AI flaws, this game won't accomplish much with heavy FPS competition looming right around the corner.
