As the game progresses, you will have obstacles like locks and badballs. Locks prevent the item under it from moving. Locks can be removed by matching the item that is locked or using a powerup or bonus. Badballs are dark colored balls. They cannot be removed by matching, only by powerups or bonuses. On each puzzle, you must remove silver, and later gold then silver, tiles. You do this by making matches over the tiles or using a powerup or bonus. If there is a gold tile, you must remove it then remove the silver tile. To clear a puzzle, you must collect any gold coins and clear all silver and gold tiles.
Starting with the second puzzle, you get the hammer powerup. This can be used on one square and recharges with time. If used on a lock, it breaks the lock but nothing more. If used on an item or badball, it removes the items/badball as well as the top tile level, if any. Also, you have bonus items. Some of these are:
- Hameleon: Can be used as the third item in a matching in place of any other item. For example, if you have two Santa hats, the Hameleon can be the third Santa hat.
- Bomb: Removes the top tile layer under itself. Also breaks any locks in the neighboring squares. If there are no locks, it will remove the item/badball as well as the top tile, silver or gold. Activated by moving it to a neighboring square.
- Rocket: Breaks any lock and/or removes any item/badball and the top tile layer in a vertical column, horizontal row or diagonal, depending on the direction it faces. Activated by moving it to a neighboring tile.
