Codename: Panzers - Phase One

„Feind in Sicht!“, ruft ein vorgeschobener Scharfschütze, der als Aufklärer dient. Kurz darauf schlagen ein halbes Dutzend Granaten zwischen meinen Panzern und der Infanterie ein. Gleichzeitig greifen zwei Flugzeuge meine Truppen an, und meine Panzer richten ihre Kanonen auf die anrückenden Feinde aus. Der Scharfschütze kann sich nicht mehr rechtzeitig zurückziehen und wird von der vorrückenden Gegnerischen Infanterie ausgeschaltet. Aber die Rettung naht. Kurz bevor meine letzten Panzer vom Gegner zerstört werden, eilt ein Bomber herbei und stoppt den gegnerischen Vormarsch. Was sich anhört wie eine Szenenbeschreibung eines Kriegsfilms ist quasi der Alltag in Codename: Panzers – Phase One. Das neue Taktikspiel von Stormregion und Publisher CDV bringt den Alltag des Schlachtfeldes im Zweiten Weltkrieg so gut rüber wie noch kein anderes Strategiespiel davor.

Es gibt da so ein paar Worte aus der deutschen Sprache, die auch Joe Sixpack geläufig sind. "Blitzkrieg" ist so eins, "Panzer" auch. Ersteres hat dem Karlsruher Publisher CDV bereits Glück gebracht. Das gleichnamige Taktikspiel fand weltweit zigtausend Fans. Letzteres soll nun das neueste Projekt zum Erfolg führen, vermittelt es doch auch der internationalen Kundschaft auf einen Blick, was sie erwartet: Panzerschlachten im Zweiten Weltkrieg.

Unglaublich! Eine solche Grafik in einem Strategiespiel zu erleben, darauf habe ich beinahe eine Ewigkeit gewartet. Doch abgesehen von der Optik ist das Spiel auch strategisch eine Herausforderung. Nicht nur in der spannenden Kampagne kommt jede Menge Spaß auf, die Mehrspieler-Modi blasen Sie ebenfalls vom Sessel. Die Jungs von Stormregion haben ein Meisterwerk abgeliefert, an dem sich nicht nur kommende Genre-Vertreter, sondern auch Sie selbst mit der Phase Two messen müssen. Ich habe jedenfalls ein neues Lieblingsspiel, und wenn es sein muss, kette ich mich an den PC, um es zocken zu können!

Dieses Spiel ist gemein: Wie soll ich als Freizeitfeldherr einen kühlen Kopf behalten, wenn dieser Taktik-Hammer alle 30 Sekunden einen neuen Begeisterungssturm entfacht? Mehr Wow-Momente als in den Panzers-Missionen passen kaum in ein Strategiespiel.

Codename: Panzers provides plenty of interesting units and destructible environments to play around with, and it contains a ton of content, resulting in an excellent real-time strategy game.

Codename: Panzers, Phase One heeft alles in huis dat we van een kwalitatief hoogstaand RTS-game mogen verwachten. De singleplayercampagne is lang en uitdagend genoeg - met sommige missies zal je zelfs meer dan een uur zoet zijn; bovendien kunnen er in de missies verschillende tactieken gebruikt worden, waardoor ook de herspeelbaarheid verhoogd wordt. De omgevingen zien er niet alleen mooi uit, maar zijn ook erg interactief; daardoor is het zelfs leuk om gewoon naar de gevechten te kijken. Kortom, Codename Panzers is een perfect voorbeeld van een Wereldoorlog Twee RTS-game dat uitstekend ontworpen werd; een pluim voor de ontwikkelaars!

C'est bien simple, Codename : Panzers : Phase One est un titre indispensable ! Tous ceux qui apprécient un tant soit peu les jeux de stratégie se doivent de le posséder. Avec sa réalisation soignée, ses trois campagnes passionnantes, son gameplay quasi-parfait et son mode multijoueur riche et complet il devient naturellement un des tout meilleurs RTS existants à ce jour. On ne peut y reprocher que quelques légers problèmes au niveau du réalisme historique des unités (défaut qui passera cependant inaperçu auprès de la grande majorité des joueurs) et une mission dédiée au débarquement proprement dit bâclée. Mais surtout, que ces petits défauts ne vous empêchent pas de découvrir ce titre qui parviendra à n'en pas douter à vous captiver.

Overall, Codename Panzers is pretty cool game. My recommendation is that if you are looking for realism, you would be better off purchasing Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2. or Combat Mission. If you like the original Command & Conquer type gameplay, Panzers will definitely suit you!

In the end, if you like exploring the interesting interactions between different types of infantry and a variety of armored vehicles, Codename Panzers is the game for you. Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2 has slightly better graphics and drivable vehicles but the size and variety of the forces you'll have at any time aren't as great as you'll find in Panzers. Some of the rougher edges might detract from the game's strengths but, to be honest, the game quickly moves you past any weak points. The important thing is that the game consistently delivers the interesting and varied tactical challenges that seem to be missing from so many other real-time strategy games. Simply put, fans of real-time strategy games can't go wrong with this one. Now bring on Phase Two!

Ambiance exceptionnelle et réalisation soignée font de Codename : Panzers une réussite incontestable, même si certains regretteront le relatif manque d'idées originales. C'est surtout la meilleure synth_se actuelle des canons du genre, bien optimisée et sans défauts ni faiblesses.

So this game is indeed one you want to look into if you like military simulations or even military based RTS titles. Had it been easier to get the game up and running for me the rating would have been higher than it is but even with the initial problems I feel Codename: Panzers has earned a full 4 GiN gems and would be a welcomed addition to many game computers!

So there we have it – what was once a game which left a bitter taste in my mouth is now probably the best available of its type. The WWII RTS genre is now flooded with games but Codename: Panzers is now top of them, it has hours of strategy gaming to offer and its excellent graphics mean it really looks the part. Whilst it provides some fun with neat gameplay touches and is easy to get the hang of, it also supplies plenty of depth.

Codename: Panzers gewoon een goede game. Alles, op het geluid na, is gewoon zoals het zou moeten zijn in een goede RTS. Verwacht echter ook geen Rome: Total War of Rise of Nations, want de game is onderhoudend maar geen game die een revolutie betekent voor het genre. De moeilijkheidsgraad kan ook een drempel vormen voor veel mensen om deze game op te pakken.

Codename: Panzers has no base-building, just some pure combat and only a hint of tactics, but in spite of this. the game doesn't lack depth or character. I cannot say it has many faults, but its AI is lacking and it definitely needs more polish. The thing with Codename: Panzers is that it is very playable, though not revolutionary or original in any way. This is a solid WWII RTS that can be really fun at times. Maybe its biggest drawback lies in the fact that it doesn't truly excel in any of its features. It is action-oriented, but it still could aim for a better AI or some more "massive" battles. You are sure to have fun with this one, but you certainly won't have an impression you've seen the eighth wonder of the world. Good job, and hopefully we'll get to see an even better title with Phase Two.

Although it may be flawed, Codename: Panzers does well to gain a foothold in a market already saturated with similar titles. There's clearly been a lot of effort put into the presentation, authenticity and lifespan of the game, but it falls down in its appeal to newcomers to the genre. A tutorial may be present, but the steep learning curve and tough difficulty level will put many off. For hardened RTS gamers in search of something WW2-themed though, this may be the game you've been waiting for. If you can handle the burden that Panzers puts on you, you'll find a solid and enjoyable game underneath.

Det är stelt och tråkigt och det är omöjligt att bli engagerad. Soldaterna skriker jobbiga saker hela tiden, ljudeffekterna låter precis som man redan vet att de ska och javisst, majestätiska stråkar för att det ska låta dramatiskt. Och allt utspelar sig i en ful värld. Där alla är fula.
