Cold Zero: No Mercy

Despite these few criticisms, Cold Zero has everything necessary for an enjoyable RPG/Action/Adventure experience. Not recommended for purist adventurers that do not want to deal with any combat or fast-paced action, but for those who like the combination of RPG/adventure and do not mind a few action sequences, then the fresh concept and innovation of Cold Zero make it a must-buy game.

Cold Zero macht Spaß, ist spannend und sieht gut aus. Die herausfordernden Missionen werden Euch eine ganze Weile bei der Stange halten, und dank der offenen Missionsstruktur ist der hiesige Wiederspielwert wesentlich höher als bei den meisten Konkurrenten. Wer sich einmal in die Welt von Cold Zero begibt, wird eine ganze Weile nicht mehr daraus hervorkommen.

Die Entwickler haben mit Cold Zero ein wirklich gutes Spiel abgeliefert. Das Missionsdesign, die packende Story, das gelungene Gameplay - hier stimmt wirklich alles. Der Soundbereich sucht seines Gleichen, dagegen ist die Grafik in den meisten Fällen verbesserungswürdig. Ebenfalls einfacher hätte man die Kamerasteuerung gestalten sollen - ohnehin hätte Drago eine etwas übersichtlichere Perspektive wählen müssen. Transparenzeffekte von Gebäuden und Bäumen hätte es bei der jetzigen Ansicht unbedingt geben müssen, damit John nicht andauernd hinter diesen verschwindet und der Spieler die Kameraansicht wieder ändern muss. Wer sich mit den Kritikpunkten abfinden kann, wird in Cold Zero einen wirklich guten Genremix vorfinden.

Spannend, spannender, Cold Zero! Wer auf knifflige Taktik-Shooter aus der Iso-Perspektive steht, ist hier genau richtig. Gelegenheitsspieler allerdings dürfte der hohe Schwierigkeitsgrad abschrecken. Selbst im leichtesten Modus ist es trotz des erstklassigen Waffenarsenals und mehrerer schusssicherer Westen verdammt hart, zu überleben. Wenigstens kann man den Spielstand jederzeit speichern.

John McAffrey war Mitglied eines SWAT-Teams - bis er eine Geiselbefreiung gründlich vermasselte, indem er die Geisel nicht etwa aus ihrer misslichen Lage, sondern von allen irdischen Sorgen befreite. Jetzt ist er erfolgloser Detektiv. Hier steigen Sie in das Spielgeschehen ein, treten während Ihres ersten Auftrags der Mafia gehörig auf die Füße und erledigen fortan Aufträge für den Don, die Sie von der mexikanischen Wüste bis hinein in russische Bergwerke führen.

Though it's rough around the edges, Cold Zero is nevertheless an adventurous and generally likeable game. Yes, you'll die way too often. And you'll definitely be forced to constantly rely on quick saves. Yet the combination of elements from several different genres--action, strategy, and role-playing--works to keep things interesting. When flaws in one are discovered, you always have something else to fall back on. If you're not a hardcore purist in any of the three genres, and if you can forgive its imperfections, you'll find that Cold Zero is an involving, gleefully violent game.

Overall the game is a decent action game, with some interesting elements, a very cliché storyline, but its quick, addictive and has a little replay value. The graphics are decent, the controls except for the camera angle simple and ergonomic and the action can either be very Metal gear solid or Diablo depending on the player and the situation.

Cold Zero isn't for everyone. The repetitive gameplay, numerous bugs and a difficult camera make the game frustrating at several points. But if you are patient and you are a hard core strategy gamer then you really can't go wrong with Cold Zero.

Cold Zero: The Last Stand is a strange old thing. It's rough around the edges and could do with a lot more polish in some departments, but it's generally playable and enjoyable for action fans. The gameplay mechanics show a lot of potential, but they don't feel at home in this genre. It's a welcome change from the tidal wave of first-person shooters, but you might want to think twice before purchasing it.

Es gibt Tage da geschehen noch Zeichen und Wunder. Als Cold Zero in der Redaktion eintrudelte hab' ich erst mit einem ziemlichem Trash-Game gerechnet - immerhin hatte man bisher nur selten von dem Actiontitel gehört. Doch die Entwickler von Drago Entertainment haben mich positiv überrascht - und das Kunststück gelingt ja nicht mehr allzu oft in letzter Zeit. Obwohl mir bewusst ist, dass sich nicht allzuviele Innovationen in Cold Zero verstecken, habe ich doch irgendwie das Gefühl endlich wieder einmal etwas zu spielen, das nicht schon viel zu oft da gewesen ist. Schade, dass dem Titel im Vorfeld so wenig Beachtung geschenkt wurde. Actionfans können bedenkenlos zugreifen.

Just like I said in my disclaimer, if you're not a fan of action/strategy games, you're probably not going to dig the numerous reloads you'll have to go through to get into the story of Cold Zero. Overall, the plot is a creative one and some of the ideas behind the game were interesting. On the other hand, you'll most likely have to be a serious fan of the genre to put up with some of the shortcomings of the engine and less than perfect control and battle scheme.

A promising concept that needs better graphics, camera controls, and AI to really shine.

The developers of Cold Zero deserve credit for attempting an ambitious combination of several different gameplay styles. This integration of different genre elements is by no means perfect, but it allows for a broad appeal to a wider than normal audience. So not being exclusively wedded to any particular genre - and being tolerant of the inevitable compromises forced in a hybrid - is an absolute prerequisite for enjoying this offering. The difficulties in camera control, input systems, and reloading and switching weapons are particularly troublesome, along with the repetitiveness of the action. Nonetheless, if you want a change of pace and do not mind considerable violence, this title is worth a try.

Aus Cold Zero hätte ein richtig gutes Spiel werden können. Allerdings haben die Entwickler beim Leveldesign geschludert. Überall lauern Horden von Gegnern. Außerdem wird Lautlosigkeit kaum belohnt – selbst eine MP lockt nur sehr wenige Feinde an. Noch dazu verderben ein paar Bugs wie in Wände fallende Gangster oder Schüsse durch Mauern manche Einsätze. Fazit: Ich gehe lieber mit Mick äh... Sam Fisher auf Schleichtour.
