The concept of risk/reward-based play is absent here; creativity proves to be its own reward. I challenge any one of you not to bellow (or squeal, if that’s more your thing) with glee after constructing a particularly elaborate solve out of crayon lines and curves. That’s really the game’s greatest triumph, allowing players to dictate the course of play using a simple yet powerful set of creation tools. In the final analysis, any complaints are minor: Crayon Physics Deluxe is superior indie gaming, providing an experience which is at once entertainingly simple and cleverly innovative.

In the end, there's no real reason not to get Crayon Physics Deluxe. So what if most of the later puzzles can be solved with stubborn brute force? The drawing mechanic will make you feel like some sort of cross between Harold and Jehovah. Crayon Physics Deluxe is a game full of charm and imagination (you can doodle on the world map!) the likes of which you've never, ever seen before.

Crayon Physics Deluxe is a very special game. You may not have heard of it, but one level in the demo, and you’ll be “drawn in” in no time. This is easily one of the best game’s you’ll play this year. Whatever you do, erase some time in your schedule for it.

ll in all Crayon Physics is a lovingly put together example of what indie gaming is all about and I would recommend it to pretty much anyone.

Unfortunately though the inconsistent difficulty and the lack of real replayability for those who want to do most of their gaming offline really hurt our final impressions of Crayon Physics Deluxe. The first 3/4s of the game are fun while they last, but they don’t last very long and the last 1/4 is more egregious than enjoyable on the whole.

For $20, Crayon Physics Deluxe is still a tempting offer for anyone with a spare bit of cash, but so are a lot of games. Crayon Physics Deluxe doesn’t need to go all the way back to the drawing board, but all it really needs is a bit more refinement to really compete with many of the other fantastic indie games vying for our attention.

That's just potential, but Crayon Physics Deluxe is still well worth the USD 20 for the adorable fun it offers right now. Having your drawings come to life is just wonderful, and when you choose to do something inventive and imaginative, you'll have a fantastic time. If only the level design forced this kind of innovation on the player, it would have been even better.
