While it's not horrible, those who love detective stories should think about picking up Nick Chase: A Detective Story as it's a more rewarding casual game for armchair sleuths with more relevant items and better mini-games.

Just Adventure
The game has its own unique charm for part of the first case. Then it simply wears out, and you get the feeling that you’re not really doing any detective work, but that the game is simply pushing you around, pointing you in the right direction, using you as an errand boy rather than a CSI, and then most of the fun wears off. There’s nothing really intellectually stimulating, the 2D graphic novel-style graphics leave things to be desired, and the concept tires quickly. On the plus side, the stories are intriguing, the voice acting decent, and it can be fun for a little while. Ultimately, however, the game loses steam rather quickly and ends up in the morgue itself, a victim of less than stellar design and execution.

CSI: NY - The Game isn't as exciting as the source material it's based on. Due to the nature of the game, it can't encompass the action or dynamic camera angles of the TV show. In addition, there's no action or gunplay here. At best, CSI: NY might get your interest with its "whodunit" aspect, but overall, the more you play the more you realize how much of a chore it actually is. All of the episodes are extremely linear and do not let you deviate from the forced path. When everything is said and done, it's just a very monotonous experience.

While it’s an entertaining romp for the first hour or so, the game will tire quickly on the player. The show is much more exciting than the video game so it’s best to stick to watching CSI on your television rather than playing it on your PC.

Adventure Gamers
The game’s less-than-forthright marketing has created false expectations of a new full-fledged adventure, but after you strip those away, there’s still some decent casual entertainment to be found in the CSI: NY office.

I've had CSI New York: The Game on the examining table for a few hours now, and I have concluded that its demise was self-inflicted. Pull the sheet over it and give it a proper burial.

There is not much more to say. CSI New York is pedestrian and very limited in what it has to offer. Fans of the show should play one of the other CSI games. Earlier games were far more in the adventure game mould, and part of the disappointment in the game was the expectation that it would be similar. There is nothing wrong with changing things a bit, but the final product still needs to be a good one. Even from a casual game perspective, this game lacks much interest. It is to be hoped that if there are any more, they will return to the earlier format.
