Overall, Curse of Atlantis may not change the “twitch gamer’s” mind on what their favorite genre is, but as far as the story and the acting, etc … it was a really good game that had a solid enough story to be really entertaining. People who were fans of the old story style adventures from back in my day will find enjoyment in this game, and people who are fans of the point and click adventure style will probably find this to be a good buy. Even if it is A to B, and the game won’t take you too terribly long to go through if you are good at this type of game, the $20.00 is worth a good story, some entertaining puzzles, and some good entertainment.

I enjoyed "Thorgal" very much. It is beautiful, with an interesting story, logical puzzles and no dead ends. It could have been somewhat longer, but it's surely not a short game (like e.g. "Road to India"). A MINUS of course, the semifinished translation in the form of sub-titles! And it's really barefaced that no word can be read on the packaging about it. Everyone has to decide for him-/herself whether a German dubbing is really important. The game itself is recommendable. The missing synchronisation is perhaps dependant on the fact that adventure games have a smaller market share... but what is really important in adventure games is the WORD, and the publishers deter the buyers with that.

Game Chronicles
Curse of Atlantis: Thorgal’s Quest is your typical adventure game that strives to pay tribute to the classics of the early 90’s. While I found a non-FPS adventure refreshing I felt this one could have been a bit better. Still, for less than $20 you can’t really complain. This title is fun for the whole family and you are even provided with multiple slots so everyone can play their own game at their own pace.

Adventure Lantern
Curse of Atlantis: Thorgal’s Quest is a difficult game to recommend. It starts with a fairly interesting premise, but the plotline never gains any kind of real depth. The adventure is far too short for a commercial release. Too many of the puzzles rely on the use of Thorgal’s archery skills and offer no real challenge. There are annoying fights and timed sequences in place of puzzles that really make you think. As long as you take the time to carefully examine each location, the game should be a breeze as the puzzles will be extremely easy as long as you have the right items. The positive aspects of the game are unfortunately greatly overshadowed by its problems. With more places to explore and additional puzzles to solve, Curse of Atlantis could have been a good game. As it stands however, it can only be recommended to players who must own every single adventure game. Even then, you should look for a very good bargain.

Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
When I first began playing Curse of Atlantis and saw its visual appeal, I began to hope that I was about to experience a classic. The interesting story involving a fascinating character certainly served to reinforce this optimism. Sadly, in a short period of time I realized that the problems with hidden objects, irritating action sequences, and extremely brief gameplay keep this title from getting anywhere near its potential. However, if you love virtual adventure and are more interested in Viking lore than the tale of Atlantis, you might still give this one a look.

Just Adventure
As anyone who has ever played any Cryo game is aware, normalcy is not par for the course. Just as you begin to settle into the storyline and have your sandals rooted on good old terra firm, its off you go to not only the Land of Shadows – which I found acceptable as it fit the Viking mythology theme – but also to a *sigh* starship replete with robots and lasers. As ludicrous as this sounds, even worse was the criteria The Adventure Company used to include the word ‘Atlantis’ in the title. Three quarters of the way through the game, there is a brief flashback of Thorgal’s parents escaping from a crumbling Atlantis. That’s it, that’s the curse of Atlantis. Huh? And don’t even get me started on the starship.

The game's one genuinely interesting moment comes at the end, when Thorgal learns what the vision actually showed him. It isn't an amazing plot twist, but it's more interesting than anything that comes before it. But again, that end comes all too soon. If it had given you a bit more to do, the game would be a simple and somewhat straightforward adventure game, but as it is, it's simply too short. To its credit, the game is budget-priced, so serious adventure game fans--the kind who like adventure games no matter how generic they might be--may find the short length to be less of a problem. Otherwise Thorgal's Quest seems like a demo for a bigger, if not necessarily better, game.

Die Grafik
hinkt aktuellen Standards hinterher:
Akteure hampeln herum
wie Marionetten aus der Augsburger
Puppenkiste; die Hintergründe
scheinen im Konzeptzeichnungs-Stadium stecken
geblieben zu sein. In einem Inventar
verwahren Sie Gegenstände,
mit denen der Wikinger
zahlreiche Rätsel im Spiel löst.
Schwierigkeit dabei: Die Puzzelteile
sind oft fies versteckt – etwa
eine Mini-Komponente für
Säure, die nur lückenlose Mauszeiger-Kreuzfahrten zu Tage
fördern. Solche Suchaktionen
und das schmucklose Ambiente
machen Thorgal zur Adventure-Durchschnittskost.

Quandary
This was a somewhat messy game. And I am not just referring to some graphics problems, which I will talk about later. It didn't really have much at all to do with Atlantis (although I have no doubt Thorgal was voiced by the same person that visited Atlantis in all those other games); but there was certainly a quest. Not an odyssey, although aspects of the game did bring that title to mind (thankfully these were not the annoying third person camera with a mind of its own or the keyboard operation); but given the lengths to which Thorgal has to go - and the worlds between which he has to travel - just to get back home, it probably felt every bit as epic to him as the tasks of Ulysses.
