OK, I know that a ton of gamers and GZ readers are avid Dark Age of Camelot fans. That’s cool, and I’m a hardcore player myself so I can see where the attraction and enjoyment are. Personally I’ve played Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC from here on out) ever since one of my fellow reviewers, Aceinet, got me into it a few months ago … so you can imagine how excited I was when I heard about the Trials of Atlantis expansion getting ready to hit store shelves soon. Well, I got to not only play it, but also get a virtual tour of all of the areas, etc. and I can honestly tell you that I was not only impressed with what Mythic has done … I was pretty amazed.

Many of those who have played DAoC for awhile and fear that it is becoming stale may not need to go any further than Trials of Atlantis to see that the game will be alive and kicking for quite some time to come. While the expansion is meant primarily for those already playing DAoC, it should make those who are considering picking up the game for the first time feel at ease in knowing that the game stays viable and immersive well through the 50th level, just as long as he or she has no problem with large groups and challenging quests.

Mit Trials of Atlantis rückt Dark Age of Camelot weiter in die Ecke, die seit Jahren Everquest ausfüllt: keine Spieler-gegen-Spieler-Kämpfe, sondern groß angelegtes Gruppen-spiel in neun teilweise sehr
anspruchsvollen Dungeons.

Camelot is a good game. It has a very interesting world; it looks nice and has a good, dedicated online community. However, it is not going to be for everyone. As with all games of its type you only get out what you put in and it's not a game that you can just dip in and out of. You really need to devote serious time to the game in each sitting, and you can also find that things move pretty fast when you are away from the game.

Worth Playing
Trials of Atlantis will introduce the ability for players to swim to explore the submerged civilization. The expansion reveals that the citizens of Atlantis, foreseeing the demise of their society, built a series of Trials into the ruins of their civilization. The Trials were designed to challenge future cultures that discover and seek to explore the ancient lands. A month ago we did a “First Impressions” article on Mythic’s second expansion for their Fantasy MMOG, Dark age of Camelot. As promised, here is the final review.

These days, Dark Age of Camelot doesn't look that great, though it's aging well. While the scenery has been revamped in this expansion, the player character models all look rather simplistic. The game still sounds good, overall, though this is mostly due to a fitting ambient musical score. However, Dark Age's presentation, while pretty good, is not what's kept players glued to this game. The combination of entertaining player-versus-environment questing and dungeon crawls, along with the competitive realm-versus-realm component, has made Dark Age of Camelot one of the better games of its type. Still, it's left players wanting more. Trials of Atlantis creates a diversion for high-level players who are growing weary of the current realm-versus-realm gameplay, but unfortunately, it doesn't offer any compelling reasons for new players to get into the game, nor does it give cause for those who took a hiatus from the realms to return.

IGN
Mythic Entertainment recently introduced its second paid expansion to the popular massively-multiplayer online roleplaying game Dark Age of Camelot. This expansion entitled Trials of Atlantis is Mythic's attempt the keep its MMO alive and prospering. Trials of Atlantis is primarily a group based series of exercises or trials that takes the Camelot player through a version of the "mythical" watery world of Atlantis. These Atlantian trials provide skills, equipment, and revenue as well as a healthy dose of adventure to the player willing exercise a bit of patience in forming his or her adventuring groups.

As the second expansion for Mythic Entertainment's Dark Age of Camelot, you might expect Trials of Atlantis to contain some update to the realm-vs.-realm player combat system that has proved to be at the core of the game's following. Surprisingly, apart from the new abilities and items that will affect RvR combat, it does not. What it does do is provide existing players with more of the same thing that they've been doing for two years now, and it still does it well.
