Generally, if you have not guessed it yet, I think the games a treat. It plays well, has a load of options and tracks to race on, each with thier own difficulties, a lot of vehicles to race, great sounds, lovely graphics, and gameplay so good if they took half of it away the game would still be so playable, in short - buy it!

The gameplay is where this title excels at. As I said before, we haven't had a lot of good futuristic racers lately. So going back to the good old ceiling driving and opponent shooting that we liked so much in the original Rollcage isn't that bad after all.

Rollcage Stage 2 is something you should try out, in spite of the fact that it probably wont be interesting for longer play. One of my buddies compared it to a blonde: it looks good, it's a good ride, but it bores you to death after a day or two...

Na also – es geht doch! Rollcage 2 löst das Versprechen des Vorgängers ein: Endlich kann ich überall fahren, wo auch nur ein bisschen Untergrund ist. Dank des stark vereinfachten Fahrverhaltens kommen jetzt auch Einsteiger gut mit den Rennflundern zurecht und haben aufgrund des atemberaubend hohen Tempogefühls von der ersten Sekunde an Spaß. Schade allerdings, dass das Ganze arg nach kostenpflichtigem Upgrade schmeckt. Mal abgesehen von der Beseitigung alter Probleme und den neuen Strecken gibt’s nicht so viel entscheidend Neues. An der jetzt erreichten Qualität ändert das aber freilich nichts – wer rasantes Geballer auf vier Rädern mag, sollte zugreifen.

Rennsport auf die harte Tour. Nur mit unfairen Mitteln und halsbrecherischer Fahrt gelingt der Sprung aufs Siegertreppchen. Aus Japan kommen die Fahrzeuge, die für Rollcage Pate standen: ferngesteuerte Spielzeug-Vehikel mit überdimensionierten Reifen, die auch nach einem Überschlag unverdrossen kopfüber weiterfahren. Genau diese Geräte steuern Sie in Rollcage Stage 2 als waghalsiger Pilot über futuristische Strecken. In einigen Ligen sind Waffen als unfaire Hilfsmittel zugelassen. Jeder Fahrer kann mit maximal zwei geladenen Waffenschächten über den Kurs brausen, Nachschub ergattern Sie durch Einsammeln von Extras.

There's a lot to like in Rollcage Sta... uh, DeathTrack Racing. The low price of about twenty bucks helps its case tremendously. If you had access to more of the game from the start and it didn't look and sound so derivative of just about every other futuristic combat racing game, it would really shine.

Rollcage : Stage 2. Le titre l’annonce peut-être lui-même : cette nouvelle mouture n’est pas vraiment un 2 à part entière, on pourrait plutôt parler de 1 bis. Les programmeurs ont voulu calmer le jeu en baissant très nettement la vitesse… Ok, c’est plus jouable, mais on a perdu le côté frénétique si caractéristique du premier. Maintenant on ne peut pas non plus trop se plaindre, la technique est sensiblement améliorée et le jeu reste vraiment amusant.

Wer den ersten Teil mochte, der wird sich wundern, warum die Strecken plötzlich so eng und die Explosionen so unaufällig geworden sind. Teil Zwei überrollt den Spieler anfangs zwar mit einer motivierenden Palette an Spiel-Modi - im Kern jedoch versteckt sich hinter der niedlichen Grafik und der launischen Breakbeat-Musik ein simples Rennspiel. Hauptsache Sie schlängeln sich brav über die Beschleunigerfelder, heimsen möglichst viele Extras ein und hoffen auf die Tollpatschigkeit anderer. Die Fahrphysik führt mit der Zeit absichtlich zu Hirnverknotungen - etwas mehr Kontrolle über das Fahrzeug hätte da ein paar Punkte gut gemacht. Trotz der Spiel-Modi fehlt es auf Dauer an Abwechslung und das Spiel landet schnell im Regal.

In its favour, Rollcage Stage II has some 14 different game modes. Not in its favour, some of them are a bit dull. The racing is the same as it ever was though, with the freedom of movement making it possible to keep the acceleration button pressed at all times, with little consideration given to traditional mainstays of the genre such as timing and braking. Naturally, it all looks mighty impressive, but doesn't offer a particularly satisfying drive, with no real purchase to be had on the road. There is little subtlety involved, and races often degenerate into a pyrotechnic free-for-all, bereft of any real tension or excitement. Beneath the superficial exterior, it's a pretty shallow experience, and in all honesty you'd be better off staying in the pub.
