Is Destiny a better Civilization? No. It's just different. All that extra depth in Destiny, combined with the need to click through a lot of difficult choices, make it resemble another product entirely - Capitalism. If you're into heavy topdown management and want unprecedented control of your growing society and all aspects of its existence, don't neglect Destiny - you'll love it.

Destiny har sagts kunna bli spelet som skulle ge Civilization 2 en rejäl match. Det kommer den att göra också, men inte än på ett tag. Spelet är buggigt och känns i vissa avseenden nästan halvfärdigt. Om man använder alla buggfixar åtgärdas visserligen en del, men det är fortfarande inte speciellt bra att släppa ett halvfärdigt spel.

With it's superior multi-player support Destiny is in position to become the game of choice for fans of Civ-type strategy who want the ability to play against live opponents. But until Interactive Magic has released more patches to take care of the game's many defects playing Destiny is more frustrating than fun.

Maybe if Destiny had been released before Civilzation 2 I would have have sounded more positive in this review. But, as it stands now, Destiny is outclassed on every level by Civ 2. Quite simply, there is no reason to purchase Destiny if you already have Civ 2, unless you're a die-hard strategy gamer willing to put up with Destiny's many problems.

Destiny is an ambitiously detailed project, but too much is asked from the player in terms of management. It definitely has great potential that could be realized through planned patches. A game that is as detailed and comprehensive as Destiny demands a proper interface, playability level, and rewarding gameplay to eliminate frustration and maintain enjoyment. Otherwise, a gamer will feel like he is a slave to the game and not in control of his own destiny.

Denn spätestens, wenn Sie das magere Video-Intro abgebrochen haben, werden Sie auf den harten Boden der Realität zurückgeholt. Von Anfang an wird man mit häßlichen Windows-95-Standardmenüs überflutet. Die 3D-Ansichten wirken wie die ersten Gehversuche eines unbegabten Grafikers, wobei vor allem die Pferde einem Holzbaukasten entsprungen sein müssen.
