Game Chronicles
The Devil Inside is a fun and frightening ride. From the moment the opening theme plays you are totally caught up in the TV show atmosphere. The graphics, sound effects, music, and gory gameplay all combine to make this a shooter not for the faint-of-heart. The action is intense and the mood is suspense. I yelled out loud several times and jumped a few more times. This is one of the best games you can currently get in the action/horror genre easily blowing the Blair Witch Trilogy out of the water and ranking right up there with the king of horror, Resident Evil. If you think you have what it takes, then get this game, turn out the lights, and release The Devil Inside.

Power Unlimited

ActionTrip
Once you start The Devil Inside for the first time, you cannot avoid a feeling of déjà vu; mostly because of the fact that it is a complete copy of Eidos' Soul Reaver. The engine is a bit different but the entire game has a lot of similarity to the third sequel of the Legacy of Kain. The Devil Inside uses contemporary 3D technologies, which provide a great atmosphere and action. The adventure aspect of the game is reflected in uncovering clues, pulling levers and occasional puzzles. The game is very dynamic and brings some new ideas to the genre. The pro-satanic sound of the title should not puzzle you as the game uses black, morbid humor to make fun of such ideas.

If you're hungering for something to shoot, and some zombies to cringe at, then Devil Inside will keep you entertained. But in today's modern age of deeper survival horror, Devil Inside ultimately leaves you wishing that those demons from hell would have brought along a little more to chew on than switches and bullets.

Adventure Classic Gaming
Without a doubt, The Devil Inside plays like a cross between the cult television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the action movie flick The Running Man. Though not without its flaws, there is just nothing quite like it.

The Devil Inside is een zeer origineel spel.

If you are a fan of Alone In The Dark, and are longing for some more French-influenced zombie fun, you will probably want to snap this up right away.

All in all, the material's a mixed bag. For every feather in The Devil Inside's cap, there's another annoying flaw or half-finished idea on display. There's absolutely no reason to transform into Deva, aside from aesthetic value, for instance. Then again, even though the overall experience is filled with cheesiness, cliches, and dumbed-down antics, that's what makes it fun. Those in favor of quick thrills and instant gratification can't go wrong with this title's campy, supernatural shenanigans.

For a while there was a theory that awkward controls helped to make suspense games more frightening, because you knew you wouldn't just be able to shoot your way out of big trouble. But certainly that can't be the case for The Devil Inside, which advertises its actionness on the box, can it? In any case, I don't agree. Awkward controls always were and always will be annoying, and they suck a lot of the fun out of this game. The Devil Inside is a game with a lot of good, fun stuff, but a couple of major flaws prevent me from really recommending it. And that's a shame.

The Devil Inside isn't a very long game, yet the combat can be enjoyable enough to make it worth playing through more than once - but that's only if you can ever get used to the awkward shifts in the perspective, which can make the game very frustrating to play. Otherwise, the game's story and adventure elements aren't very interesting in themselves, and the novelty of the TV-show premise gets old soon enough. What's left are you, a lot of guns, and a lot of zombies - not to mention a fairly good-looking 3D graphics engine to show it all off. And for players who are looking for a horror-themed action-adventure game, this should prove sufficient.

Just Adventure
This is more a game for adventurers who like some light, albeit bloody, action. It is Alone in the Dark to the extreme, with the inventory elements removed. Maybe as more background material is supplied, as the characters develop more depth, and as the player (and the audience) participates more in the proceedings, then the future sequels will be more involving. But for now, I felt as though I was on the outer ring of hell looking in, denied permission for entrance.

Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
Having a nightmarish control scheme and numerous uncrushed bugs cripples The Devil Inside from blows from which not even the Prince of Darkness would be able to recover. What could have been an excellent survival horror title with enough innovation to set it apart is instead a difficult struggle through impossible controls and increasingly simple gameplay. Despite giving players every sensationalist element considered necessary for entertainment, The Devil Inside falls just short of providing solid fun. On the other hand, this may be the only survival horror game we see on the PC until Hubert Chardot graces us with the next installment of Alone in the Dark.

Computer Gaming World (CGW)
THE DEVIL INSIDE plays more like a botched experiment than a game. That wouldn’t be so bad if the designers accomplished something meaningful in the midst of all the miscues, but this is a poorly thought-out gimmick that grows tedious after less than an hour. If there is a next time, Gamesquad should concentrate on the basics and leave the reality television to television.
