Diablo II: Lord of Destruction

It may cost a bundle at $30, but Diablo II: Lord of Destruction is worth the price. The expansion is so packed with new features, creatures, classes and items that you could mistake it for a new game. And with at least an additional 10 hours of play, the expansion is definitely worth the price. The best game of last year may feature the best expansion of this year.

This expansion pack retains all the great text feedback and excellent interface of Diablo 2 and pads the game out rather nice with its extra features. Fans of Diablo 2 will love this expansion pack. Although the fifth act is rather short it is the other additions that make it a quality add-on. Think of it as expanding the width of the game rather than the length.

Das grundsätzliche und erfolgreiche Spielprinzip haben die Entwickler verständlicherweise mit Lord of Destruction nicht geändert, warum auch? Akt fünf knüpft spielerisch nahtlos an die vorigen Abenteuer an, Story und Aufträge harmonisieren sehr gut miteinander. Es spielt zwar beim Kämpfen und Zaubern nicht wirklich eine Rolle, ob man Gefangene befreit, einem bestimmten Boss-Gegner das Lebenslicht auspustet oder Verräter entlarvt, sorgt aber für einen stimmigen Rahmen.

Alleine die höhere Auflösung (längst überfällig) und die Myriaden neuer Gegenstände locken mich immer wieder nach Harrogath. Bei jeder gefundenen Rune freue ich mich diebisch und überlege tagelang, wo und wie ich sie wohl einbauen werde. Die sechs Quests und die neuen Gegner motivieren ungemein; blödsinnige Monsternamen wie in Diablo 2 kommen kaum mehr vor. Momentan sind die Fertigkeiten der frischen Charaktere sowie die Söldner etwas zu stark, ein Patch könnte dies verbessern. Einen Rüffel verdient Blizzard für den Preis des Addons. Für 60 Mark ist auch so manches neue Spiel schon zu haben. Gelegenheits-Monsterplätter und reine Solo-Spieler sollten sich genau überlegen, ob sie ihre sauer verdienten Goldstücke für die Jagd nach Baal ausgeben wollen. Ernsthafte Diablo-2-Fans haben dagegen keine Wahl. Das Addon ist ein Pflichtkauf für jeden engagierten Mausklick-Meuchler.

Laajennuspaketti tuo paljon uudistuksia myös pinnalle näkymättömiin ominaisuuksiin, mutta pelaamista alkuperäiseen on lisää loppujen lopuksi melko vähän, eikä pari uutta hahmoakaan tuo peliin riittävästi uutta ja ihmeellistä. Kuitenkin jos internet-yhteydet antavat myöten kannattaa peliä kokeilla verkossa, sillä vasta moninpelinä pääsevät laajennuspaketin ominaisuudetkin vasta oikeuksiinsa. Monet uudistukset parantavat Diablo 2:n niin loistavaa pelattavuutta entisestään ja pelaamista kokonaisuutena kuitenkin riittää melkoisesti.

Das Add-on macht Diablo 2 mehr zu dem Spiel, das sich vor einem Jahr alle wünschten: Höhere Auflösung, bessere Performance und mit noch mal zwei neuen Charakteren und dem fünften Akt mehr Einzelspielerspaß. Im Battle.net herrscht wie nach der ursprünglichen Veröffentlichung erst mal Chaos. Die Situation dürfe Blizzard jedoch schnell in den Griff kriegen, um auch ein ausgezeichnetes Mehrspielererlebnis zu ermöglichen. Den hohen Schwierigkeitsgrad in ’Nightmare’ und ’Hell’ sehe ich positiv: Das fördert das Teamwork, schließlich hat niemand gesagt, dass man da solo auf Monsterhatz gehen soll.

One of the more hostile moments in IGN PC's history has been Dan Adams's review of Diablo II -- primarily because he's the sort of guy that believes that games should regularly use more than one mouse button. So this time around to spare Dan the hatemail, the EIC asked a guy who actually liked Diablo II to review the expansion pack. So, as a fan and a critic, I have to say the Lord of Destruction is really good -- Blizzard really revised, tweaked, and added features that will make it a "must buy" for any fan, but there are some serious caveats (actually, only one big one) that you need to be aware of before diving straight in.

Diablo II: Lord of Destruction is to Diablo II what Brood War was to StarCraft. The changes are many and irreversible, but in general Blizzard is taking things in the right direction, and if you don't mind investing another $35 into Diablo II (you first need to admit the fact that you purchased items off of Ebay), LoD will be well worth it!

En bref, sans procéder à la refonte totale du jeu ( de toute façon c'est pas le but ! ) Lord Of Destruction apporte un lot de nouveautés tout à fait interessant. On peut diviser celles-ci en deux catégories, celle des améliorations qui viendront améliorer l'interface, mais également certains aspects du gameplay et d'autre part celle des nouveaux éléments apportés à l'univers du jeu original. En bref, les passionnés verront ici une bonne occasion de se relancer dans Diablo 2 pour le boucler avec les deux nouveaux personnages mais également écumer de long en large les nouveaux territoires offerts par cette extension.

Le seigneur des Enfers vient d’être vaincu, mais une nouvelle menace pèse sur le monde... Cette fois, c’est le petit dernier des Démons Originels qu’il vous faudra affronter. Celui qu’on appelle le Seigneur de la destruction - ou plus simplement Bhaal - tentera en effet de « corrompre la puissante Pierre Eternelle qui protège le plan terrestre des forces du Mal » (dixit le scénario). Rien que ça ! Bref, c’est encore à vous que l’on fait encore appel pour sauver l’univers de cette vile engeance, terrée dans les profondeurs des Hautes Terres Barbares...

Moins d’un an après la sortie de Diablo 2, Blizzard accouche donc de l’extension Lord of Destruction. Apporte t-il de réelles nouveautés ou n’est-il qu’un simple coup marketing destiné à remplir ldes caisses déja probablement bien garnies ?

As you leave the vaguely-classified "safety" of the town walls, you quickly walk into the fantasy world's version of the battle scene in Saving Private Ryan -- that is, if you had walked in five minutes after the battle started. As it is, your allies are hopelessly outnumbered, and falling fast. You will come across battling barbarians, but all too often they'll fall even before you can reach them. It looks like once again, it's you versus a small country of possessed minions.

I have to say that even though I hate what Diablo Hack'n'Slash gameplay does to my mice (note: I said mice), this expansion and what it had to offer really got my attention. If you are an old Diablo fan, you probably already finished the expansion, and if you never even played Diablo II, well, now you can play a complete debugged game with seven available PC classes.

Meer tactische mogelijkheden, een mooier uitzicht aan een hogere resolutie, en op en top Diablo.

Expansionen förändrar förmodligen inte folks syn på Diablo II, men det är ett bra tillägg till originalet. Jag kan avslöja att den femte akten slutar på ett sådant sätt att Blizzard har goda chanser att skapa fler uppföljare. Om det blir en tredje del hoppas jag att man moderniserar serien. Spelkänslan är det inget fel på.

Diablo II Lord of Destruction is een grote aanrader voor iedereen die van avontuur en actie houdt. Het spel biedt vele uren spelplezier en veel variëteit. Wanneer je de singleplay campagne hebt uitgespeeld, kun je je avonturen vervolgen op internet.

Blizzard bouwt Diablo II niet alleen verder uit, het overklast het origineel en biedt naast twee ijzersterke nieuwe karakters, een waslijst aan nieuwe goodies en gameplay.

Lord of Destruction has a lot of depth that's readily apparent, yet it takes a long time to really see how much is packed into this great expansion.

Älskade man originalet kommer man utan tvekan att älska denna expansion. Och man gör bäst i att spela om hela spelet, inklusive den nya femte akten, fär att få ut så mycket som möjligt ur Diablo II: Lord of Destruction.

Diablo 2 : Lord of Destruction offre aux fans tout ce qu'ils pouvaient attendre de Blizzard. Il faut tout de même reconnaître que cet add-on ne change pas le concept en profondeur. Certes, ce n'est pas ce que les fans lui demandent, mais ceux qui ont vaguement joué au jeu original ne se laisseront certainement pas tenter par cet add-on. Lord of Destruction est destiné aux fervents adeptes de Diablo II, à ceux qui y jouent encore en solo ou sur Battlenet ainsi qu'à ceux qui l'ont laissé tombé par manque de réel challenge. Résumons : si vous aimez Diablo II, procurez-vous cet add-on... et vite.

Diablo II: Lord of Destruction does that which an expansion pack should do. It adds features and options that enhance the game experience, but in generally indirect ways that are best appreciated by those who have already played through the original release.

The wide range of character classes to choose from, the forming and perpetual refining of each character, and the sheer breadth of customizing traits available all serve to solidify the replay value of this immense epic. The fact that maps differ when beginning a new game also adds to replay value.

Lord of Destruction is pure action. This is what fans of Diablo II want: pure monster-killing, item-dropping, fireball-chucking entertainment. The expansion doesn't offer a sophisticated plot, extensively scripted dialogue, or complicated puzzle solving. It only promises action, and delivers it in abundance. The millions of consumers who purchased and enjoyed Diablo II will find enhanced gameplay and replayability in the expansion. The increased difficulty ultimately weakens the single-player experience, but with great music, more territory and quests, additional monsters and items, and two new character classes, Lord of Destruction is worth the price of admission -- even more so because of the upgrades to Battle.net. Long after the marathon play sessions have ended, you may find the Lord of Destruction icon still sits on your desktop, and that you pop in the CD long enough to get "one more skill point."

Is this enough to put me back on the trail of Deckard Cain again? Not really. Unless you haven't tired of multiplayer on Battle.net, all the new characters, skills, and items don't take away the been there, done that feeling. This is especially true if, like many, you've gone through the game a couple times already to try out different classes. Buy Lord of Destruction if you're exploring Diablo II for the first time. Skip it if you've already had your fill.

It says Blizzard on the box, but the new Act doesn't have those high-bar hallmarks we've come to expect.

The original Diablo was my first PC gaming experience, so I have Blizzard to thank for opening me up to the world of PC gaming. It's a fantastic game filled with many fantasies to live and mysteries to unfold. I'd absolutely recommend Diablo II: Lord of Destruction to anyone who has played Diablo, another Blizzard game, or an action title with RPG elements. Even someone new to the world of gaming might enjoy it, though it would be wise to start at the beginning of the series. Otherwise, a new player might feel lost in the Lord of Destruction. It would be like skipping to the last few pages of a book and trying to understand why it ends in the way that it does. However, if you're in it for the pure hack and slash, dive on in. Please note that you do need Diablo II to install and play the expansion.

However, the lack of an on-demand save function is quite obnoxious. If you’re unlucky enough to get yourself killed, you’ll need to retrace your steps from the nearest town to get all of your equipment back. Bummer. Oh well, whaddya gonna do? Buy it anyway, of course.
