Description

Dino Match is a shareware educational title featuring the characters Derik the Dinosaur and Rex the Tyrannosaurus. It is a single player a memory game for age group 5-9.

The story behind the game is that Rex the Tyrannosaurus cannot read and he is jealous of Derik the Dinosaur who can. So Rex has stolen all the books and has hidden them in a maze. To make them even harder to find he has put some in fake and buildings and has given others to book worms. The challenge is to recover all the books and record a high score.

The game consists of a maze. The player must guide Derik around the maze until a building or a bookwork is encountered, at this point a memory puzzle is presented. Rex appears when a building is located and entered. He shows Derik, the player, to a set of cards face up, these are then turned face down and Derik is asked to match two of them. If this is done correctly points are scored, the book is retrieved and the player progresses, otherwise the book is lost. The matching process becomes harder as the game progresses. Early on in the game the player gets to see the cards face up at the start of each challenge but in later rounds they only see the cards face-up in the first building they enter. All buildings must be entered to clear a level.

The player faces a different kind of challenge when a bookworm is encountered. The player is presented with four cards face-down. One of these is turned over to reveal Rex's face and are then turned face down again. The process is repeated a number of times and the player is invited to replicate the sequence. The bookworm challenges are bonus points. When the level is completed, i.e. All the buildings have been entered, a harder level with more challenges is presented.

The game uses the keyboard to move Derik and the mouse to both select matching cards and follow the bookworm sequence. The shareware game has only two levels in it and the full retail version has thirty.
