DDO represents a new paradigm for the MMO genre with unique features including solo and party-based quests, integrated voice chat, real-time action combat, and award winning graphics. DDO is a unique experience where players must use their combat skills and wits to survive dangerous dungeons, fiendish traps and foes that punish the foolish. Trivia

On September 09, 2009 the game was relaunched with a US-only, free-to-play makeover and it was rebranded as Dungeons & Dragons Online Unlimited. All existing subscribers were turned into VIP members with access to additional content and a large number of points to buy in-game items.

Along with the update Module 9 was introduced, which raised the level cap, added two new storylines, overhauled the combat system and introduced the Favored Soul. Module 9 was also released as a regular free update to European subscribers.
