Earth 2150: Lost Souls

Lost Souls is an excellent old-school real-time strategy game. Thanks to the customisable units and obvious thought that has gone into each of the three campaigns, they're all equally worthy of your time. Each side feels like an entirely different force. Although the tech may be a bit long in the tooth, the game is very well composed and each campaign sufficiently long and challenging that you'll be playing it for quite a while, particularly if you can rope some friends into the LAN or internet play. Easy to get into and hard to let go of, Lost Souls adds an almost unblemished varnish to the old-school RTS.

Ich bin der Meinung, das Lost Souls ein sehr gutes Spiel ist. Allerdings wird dieses Spiel gerade ungeübte Spieler oder Neueinsteiger überfordern und ohne das Spielen der Tuorienmaps kommen sie auch nicht weiter. Experten oder Profispieler werden auf Grund der Vielseitigkeit voll auf ihre Kosten kommen. Echtes Manko des Spiels ist aber, das jeder, der mindestens einen der beiden Vorgänger besitzt, außer den Zwischensequenzen kaum Neues zu Gesicht bekommen wird. Es wurden lediglich einige Programmfehler der Vorgänger behoben. Daher entschloss ich mich das Bewertungskriterium „Motivation“ um fünf Punkte zu verringern.

Lost Souls verwendet die gleiche Oberfläche wie World War 3 und bietet unergonomische Baumenüs und zu klein geratene Funktionsbuttons. Dank der schönen Grafik, der spannenderen Hintergrundgeschichte und der abwechslungsreicheren Missionen schafft es Lost Souls, mehr Atmospähre zu erzeugen - auch wenn fast jeder Einsatz durch den Tankrush zu gewinnen ist.

Earth 2150: Lost Souls stands tall on its own merits. Its many options, long missions, and excellent gameplay make it one of the best RTS games on the market. If you've already played previous Earth 2150 games, you won't find anything new here, but if you don't mind going through the same thing again or you're just looking for a great RTS game, then look no further.

Lost Souls is your average real time strategy game. It doesn’t bring anything really new or exciting to this genre of gaming. If your into these futuristic strategy games, this would defiantly be the next title for you to pick up after you have gotten tired of Command and Conquer.

Wichtig ist auf dem Schlachtfeld die Versorgung mit Munition, was wegen der langsamen Versorgungsflieger allerdings schnell nervt. Die Panzer und Mechs der Kontrahenten wirken kantig und steril, dafür sehen die Licht- und Explosionseffekte der immerhin zwei Jahre alten 3D-Engine immer noch sehr schmuck aus.

The three linked campaigns, a skirmish generator as well as the multiplayer mode makes for good value for money for newcomers. But for anyone who has played either of the earlier titles, don't bother unless you found yourself gagging for more when the credits rolled on The Moon Project. Dazzling in its day, but we're beginning to expect more from strategy games.

Earth 2150: Lost Souls is, in brief, an excellent, classic-style RTS that requires some deep tactics. While the game doesn't offer any gameplay innovations over its precursor, Moon Project, it is still a great purchase if you enjoy real-time strategy games, or the Earth 2150 series. If you're looking for a new RTS, there are very few new titles that can compete with Lost Souls for the right to be in your collection.

If you noticed, I didn't really speak too much about the online component of Lost Souls. Earth 2150 has long had a thriving online community, ever since the original game launched Earthnet and it's subsequent successor, Moonnet for The Moon Project. I've been doing a lot of talking to players online and in messages about Lost Souls, trying to gauge their opinion as to why so few of them play the latest game in the series. Quite a few of them simply haven't purchased the title, but a majority of them didn't see a difference in the two games and prefer the older title to the newer.

What it all boils down to is a solid real-time-strategy game with some cool features. RTS fans should give it a go if they’re looking for a new title, but others might want to try out a demo first. The game is, admittedly, a bit slow compared to games like StarCraft, but it’s more complex than that, as well. Either way, Lost Souls is a game that tries new things, and even if they don’t always seem that great, at least it’s a breath of fresh air.

This game has nothing new to offer, but it is still fairly interesting. The large number of new, hard and complex missions is bound to keep and SF RTS fan in front of his computer for some time. Earth 2150 trilogy fans will be overwhelmed with this game. The rest of you would be better off with something else.
