This is a game worth replaying just to listen to certain lines again and again. I have almost four pages of save points just to show off some of the great voice work and jokes. Escape from Monkey Island is the fourth and hopefully not the last in this great series (if the voodoo lady is to be believed number 5 will be coming someday). The transition to the 3D engine was handled perfectly and as usual with all LucasArts adventure games, from Sam and Max to Maniac Mansion to Grim Fandango, it is the plot and humor that carries you along. If you liked any of the previous Monkey Island games or just adventure games in general this is a must have game.

Tromgeroffel... trompetgeschal... gejuich...

I've been playing Escape From Monkey Island for nearly three weeks now, and although I have finished it, I'm still going back over bits here and there to relive a few moments. As with most adventure games, it's startlingly linear, but don't you dare let that rob you of the experience; this is a game that should be bought, played and cherished. I imagine that as with the previous titles, in a few months time I will dig it out of the draw and play through it again. It's just one of those games.

Maybe there's a point to the bad analogies: LucasArts really is becoming the Pixar of adventure games right along with the sense of smart situations and effortless wonder that such a comparison implies. Some ill-chosen puzzles, a fatigued conclusion -- no matter, really. You'll be smiling too much to give it much notice. This is nothing less than perfectly perfected perfection. If you like monkeys, anyway.

I know I am a bit subjective when writing about Monkey Island, but I do have to recommend you the fourth part of the game. I really had my doubts about it, but it still is good old Guybrush Threepwood.
What EFMI ends up feeling like is a highly honed episode of your favorite show. Old characters reappear, relationships are fleshed out in even more humorous detail, and old locations are brought back for your joy and giggles. While the glitches are definitely frustrating, and the polish is lacking at times, overall this is a welcome return to the eeps and oops of your childhood.
Despite all the changes in graphical format, control scheme, and the number of monkeys to be found, this is definitely a proud member of the Monkey Island family. Is it a must-own game? I wouldn’t say so, unless you enjoy a good laugh now and then and have already played Curse of Monkey Island. There are better ways to kill some cash, but the worse ways outnumber them by quite a bit. I suppose the best way to put my opinion would be that if you liked all the other Guybrush adventures, you’ll like this one too.

Escape from Monkey Island firmly sticks to the principle that 'if it ain't broke, why fix it'. This makes for a game that Monkey Island fans will love -- mainly because it's virtually identical to formula of MI1, 2 and 3. Being a fan myself, this suits me fine, but the fact is, a lot of people would like to see at least some fresh ideas. After the innovation we've seen in all genres of recent years, Escape from Monkey Island is a fun game that could have been so much more.
LucasArts has taken a beloved cyber character, upgraded him and given him a new, albeit similar directive. Sure Guybrush is battling forces beyond his ability, but he is such a lovable character, his cause is so good, and his purpose so naïve that this program is difficult not to like. The humor is droll but affecting, and the game play so well laid out that this program has to be considered a worthy sequel to its predecessor. As with the original, the rating may be a little harsh, but there are jokes in here that only more mature individuals will get, and thoroughly enjoy.
Escape from Monkey Island to produkcja niemalże doskonała. Piszę "niemalże" ponieważ do ideału czegoś brakuje. Czego?

Guybrush Threepwood.Who can't love that bumbling, wimpy, wannabe pirate, whose greatest skill is running about the Caribbean, doing pointless tasks and going on wild goose chases, all the while unbelievably thwarting the evil Ghost/Zombie/Demon Pirate LeChuck? LucasArts, the folks behind such adventure classics as Sam & Max and Day of the Tentacle, have brought forth the next Monkey Island game, Escape from Monkey Island. Although it is an excellent game with laugh-out-loud humor and terrific graphics, there are a few small monkey wrenches in the machinery (hehe, couldn't help myself).
Game Informer Magazine
Old fans of the Monkey Island games, and just about anyone frustrated by the current dearth of goofy adventure games, would be well advised to check this game out. I thought the music and visuals were a little below par compared to previous installments, but the humor and challenging puzzles make Escape a worthy addition to the Monkey Island series.
PC Zone
Escape From Monkey Island is an enjoyable, professionally created and amiably funny game. It doesn't do anything startlingly new, but is still an essential title for the hordes of people who grew up playing adventures. Because you are still out there, aren't you?

Escape from Monkey Island is a great game that can be frustrating. At times it'll seem as if there were simply too many designers working on it and everyone wanted their ideas included. The puzzles are hit and miss, and so are the jokes. This is best illustrated by the traditional LucasArts post-credits joke, in this case a string of pop-culture references that goes on and on, as if no one could decide which of them were funny so they just decided to leave them all. But in most cases, the game can be a real pleasure to play, because enough of the puzzles are good and enough of the jokes are amusing. As such, veterans of the Monkey Island series will surely enjoy the game in spite of its occasional problems.
I freely admit my bias in favor of this game; I’ve loved the series ever since the original Secret of Monkey Island released ten years ago. It’s not perfect, though -- for those who have never played the previous games, the in-jokes may be confusing; for long-time fans of the series, the new interface and game glitches will be frustrating. Despite these drawbacks, the game is a lot of fun -- it passes the “time travel” test, where you sit down to play for just a few minutes and suddenly realize it’s 3 a.m. And honestly, how many other developers could manage to slip “Schadenfreude,” “ichor” and “potzrebie“ into a game successfully? Although not the high point of the Monkey Island series, Escape from Monkey Island earns an overall score of 80 as a worthy addition to the adventure game genre.
Adventure Gamers
Escape From Monkey Island is the fourth game in the wildly popular Monkey Island series, which goes all the way back to 1990’s classic The Secret of Monkey Island. I have been a huge fan of the series ever since I first played the original over ten years ago. Still, my feelings were mixed when LucasArts first announced Escape From Monkey Island. A common problem with any game series is that it can easily become formulaic, and water down with each new sequel. Sure, the first two games are legendary, but could LucasArts live up to our expectations again?
UHS (Universal Hint System)
The most important thing I can say about Escape from Monkey Island (EFMI) is that it's the fourth game in the Monkey Island series. As obvious as that might sound, that's about all you need to know. Yes, the game does have its share of problems, but it still generally has the quality of humor and puzzles that one has come to expect from a Monkey Island game. However, with too many jokes based on previous games, it will appeal a little less to those who aren't already rushing out to buy it on seeing "Monkey Island" in the title.
GameSpot (Belgium/Netherlands)
Game Informer Magazine
First things first: If you don’t have a strategy guide for this game, you can forget about beating it. Not only that, but you can forget about getting past the second level. That said, this game is hilarious. I’ve seen a lot of games that try to be funny, but this one actually succeeds. The voice acting is superb, and the dialogue is written very well. A game like this can only be as good as its writers, and they’ve nailed it. From innuendo to references to THX-1138 (if you’re a real Lucas fan, you know exactly what I’m talking about), EFMI will not bore you. However, there is a little something I like to call ‘The Suck Factor.’ EFMI begins to explore The Suck Factor while you’re wandering aimlessly around a level hoping for enlightenment on what the hell to do next. Some would call it subtlety, I call it lame. EFMI will definitely tickle your funny bone – that’s one thing. How long your patience will hold out, that’s something else.
Computer Gaming World (CGW)
ESCAPE FROM MONKEY ISLAND left me with mixed feelings, Aside from the Monkey Kombat, its an extremely solid adventure game. It has good puzzles and funny writing. But many of its jokes will simply fly over the heads of newbies not wholly familiar with the series. Gamers who’ve been with the series since the beginning will get a nagging feeling that something is missing, that it’s not “up there” with games like the other MONKEY ISLANDS or GRIM FANDANGO. It’s well done, but an imperfect MONKEY ISLAND game. Let’s hope that the next game (as predicted by the ending and the characters) manages to end the series on a high note, rather than drive the name into mediocrity. Guybrush, and his legion of fans, deserve better.
Game industry News (GiN)
Despite the difficulties with the interface, Escape from Monkey Island is an incredibly funny, good-looking and great-sounding game. I give it 3.5 GiN Gems out of 5, and I'm not monkeying around.
Unlike its predecessors, Escape from Monkey Island is not a standard point and click adventure - a great disappointment for adventure game players who prefer the simplicity and involvement that mouse control provides. It does have that distinctive Monkey Island flavour that we have all come to know and love but the keyboard interface is clumsy and frustrating. It's rather like being served up a delicious frothy milkshake and then handed a chopstick instead of a straw to drink it with.
Adventure Classic Gaming
The Monkey Island series is among the most renowned adventure game series ever created. This is despite some critics who argue that the games from this series have never been LucasArts’ finest. With each sequel, more critics have also questioned its weaker and growingly incoherent plot. The fourth installment, ironically named Escape from Monkey Island, does not fair much better. In fact, this sequel may stand to be the least impressive among all the titles in the Monkey Island series. Although any sequel from such recognized license should always be taken notice, perhaps it is finally time to put this horse to pasture before we have to go out and shoot it!
Just Adventure
EFMI brings nothing new to the table. It will not attract a new generation of gamers and was made for the hardcore adventure gamer who enjoyed the previous episodes. Like many movie sequels that have outlived their usefulness, EFMI is a watered-down, shorter version of a classic that is relying on its past glories.
