Adventure Classic Gaming
I have to say that many of the experience veteran gamers have come to enjoy from playing classic point and click adventure games from the 80’s and 90’s will be found from playing this game. I also have to say that novice gamers who are new to the genre will have a good time playing it as well. Overall, Episode 1: First Day in Sweden is a fun beginning for this unique series, with bits of nostalgia from a golden era of adventure gaming that everyone will enjoy.

Adventure Europe
Pan Metron Ariston was founded at the beginning of the year 2006, having only one goal in mind: to create a Point & Click adventure game that is a bit different from the ones that have been published before regarding the story, but also trying to preserve the Lucasarts / Sierra style and atmosphere. The team was hoping that their game will revive those time-forsaken feelings that we once had by playing classic Point and Click adventure games.

In conclusion, The Exchange Student, Episode 1: First Day in Sweden is an enjoyable game. It is short and light, ideal for a game that would seem to intend to cater to the casual gamer market, especially those that might not want to spend large amounts of time on their gaming. The tone is humorous and fun, with a cartoon style and a classic sitcom plot. The characters, if handled well in the coming episodes, could potentially provide a lot of amusement. All in all, First Day in Sweden is a very promising start to the series.

If you’re looking for a simple, quick adventure game to play in your spare time, then The Exchange Student could be your thing. If you’re looking for a life-sucking epic like Myst or The Longest Journey, you will be sorely disappointed.

Just Adventure
If TES: Episode 1 was a freeware adventure game, I admit I would have been a lot less critical and given a higher grade. But the episode costs 10 Euros (about $12). For the unremarkable quality (and quantity) of gameplay that is being offered, is it good value for money? I’ll leave that one to you. Here’s one caveat that you should be aware of if you purchase the game – you can only play it on the computer that you purchased it on, since the serial number that activates the full version of the game is machine specific. Jeez. If I pay for a game, shouldn’t I be able to copy it and play it on another machine I own?
