Bottom Line: A fantastic flight simulation. Ten aircraft with totally different characteristics make for a diverse range of experiences. Extremely helpful tutorials allow even a complete novice to learn gracefully. The terrain area is very limited, but features great detail.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for the VFR joy of flying, FLIGHT UNLIMITED 3 is the handsdown winner. The Seattle-area terrain and weather graphics are cutting edge, and the rest of the graphics are above standard. The interface is smooth and easy, the flight models are decent, and the ATC environment sets the current standard for excellence. It has weak areas. too — primarily in flight instruction, limited cockpit views, simplified instrument panels, and limited geography.

Radiokommunikationen i Flight Unlimited III är mycket realistisk, nästan som att prata med en riktig människa. Grafiken är detaljrik och vädereffekterna naturtrogna. Men ska du köpa en flygsimulator råder vi dig att vänta till i jul. Då har alla stora titlar släppts och du kan välja och vraka.

The beauty of the scenery, the wealth of the plane, weather, and flight options, the rock-solid modeling, and the excellent learning system all combine to make Flight Unlimited III the first place you should stop if you're exploring the world of non-combat simulation, and an essential stop for any serious sim enthusiast. It might not have all the scope compared to the competition, but it has details to spare.

There's little argument Microsoft reigned as the undisputed kings of civilian flight sims the better part of sixteen years. Then, in the mid-'90s, a few daring game designers took a stab to unseat the software Goliaths from its throne, namely Looking Glass Studios with the impressive Flight Unlimited sim for the DOS platform. Other non-combat sims followed, with varying results, such as Sierra's ambitious yet bug-ridden Pro Pilot, Looking Glass Studios' beautiful Flight Unlimited II and most recently, Terminal Reality's luke-warm Fly! Naturally, Microsoft didn't rest on its laurels either, offering new incarnations of its Flight Simulator series almost annually, not to mention a handful of expansion discs each year, as well.

Zowel de geluiden als de grafische afwerking van FU III behoren tot het beste van wat vandaag voorhanden is. Het erg uitgebreide en eenvoudig te volgen lessenpakket laat toe iedereen van complete rookie tot doorgewinterde ace binnen de kortste keren achter de stuurknuppel te krijgen. Flight Unlimited III is meer dan een waardige opvolger van z'n voorganger, hij toont ook nog eens aan dat het genre levendiger is dan ooit. Een aanrader dus.

Flight Unlimited III is een goed uitgewerkte en mooie flightsim, die dankzij enkele hulpmiddelen ook voor de beginners te begrijpen is. Een dikke PC is echter een vereiste.

There is definitely a lot to like about Flight Unlimited 3. Despite its obvious limitations in terms of scenic area, the level of detail that has gone into rendering what is included is more than adequate. There’s enough to do in and around the Pacific Northwest to provide hours of flying enjoyment. I also had a great time testing out the various planes and their differing abilities. I also liked that the designers offer so many different ways to fly. Combined with a fairly realistic flight model and some absolutely stunning graphics, this kind of breadth in terms of playable scenarios is what makes for a real winner of a civilian flight sim. Unfortunately, the technology gets in the way. I still have no idea why Flight Unlimited III keeps crashing on me, and then there are the framerates, which certainly could use some improvement. When these issues are addressed, however, FU3 will easily stand toe-to-toe and eye-to-eye with its competitors.

Не стану ничего рассказывать о радионавигации, полетам по приборам и использовании спутниковой навигационной системы GPS, это все для профессионалов, а я не для них пишу. Да и игра, на мой взгляд, сделана не для них. Как раз начинающим виртуальным пилотам лучше всего опробовать свои силы в этом красивом, но достаточно простом симуляторе. Причем, что самое главное, по мере совершенствования своего мастерства вы можете ставить перед собой все более и более сложные задачи.

Flight Unlimited III is a solid choice for a flight sim -- if you are an aspiring pilot, you'll likely get a great deal of enjoyment out of this package; if you're a Flight Unlimited veteran, as I am, you may be a bit disappointed that more progress hasn't been made between versions. All in all, Flight Unlimited III rates a 77 for a middle of the pack flight sim -- competent, but no longer a benchmark title in this genre.

Schön, die Flugphysik ist realistisch und das Terrain sehr hübsch. Nur ist ein Fluggebiet einfach viel zu wenig. In Zeiten, in denen die Konkurrenz-Programme so ziemlich jeden Flughafen zwischen Hammerfest und Feuerland bieten, lockt ein einzelnes Szenario keinen PC-Piloten mehr ins Cockpit. Die elf Sonderaufgaben haben Sie auch viel zu schnell durch, so daß Ihnen nach spätestens einer Woche kaum ein Grund bleibt, noch einmal nach Seattle zurückzukehren. Zum Addon- Preis wäre Flight Unlimited 3 noch tragbar, als Vollpreis-Produkt ist es zu teuer.

Flight Unlimited 3 weist prinzipiell die gleichen Vorzüge auf wie sein Vorgänger. Die Genauigkeit der Terraindarstellung ist unübertroffen, dafür können Sie auch nur ein relativ kleines Gebiet überfliegen. Die Gegend wirkt weniger steril als bei der Konkurrenz, da sich andere Flugzeuge und Schiffe im Fluggebiet befinden. Leider gibt es nicht mal halb so viele Challenges wie in Flight Unlimited 2, von denen vier dazu nur aus dem Fliegen von Figuren bestehen. Alles in allem eine schöne zivile Flugsimulation, die aber angesichts des drohenden Flight Simulator 2000 Federn lassen muss.

Erst mit Flight Unlimiteds dritter Auflage nimmt die diesjährige Versionitis der zivilen Flugsimulationen ein Ende. Die Entwickler haben mit den längst bekannten Fortschritten der Konkurrenz nicht mithalten können.
