The casting of Curry -- transvestite Dr. Frank-N-Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show -- as Dr. Frankenstein in Through the Eyes of the Monster, however, was a stroke of mad genius. He delivers a deliciously campy performance, even without fishnet stockings and platform shoes. Frankenstein surrounds you with hyperrealistic graphics as you play ol' zipperneck himself, tromping through a skeleton-festooned castle, enduring Curry's wisecracks, and poking around secret passageways for hints to your real identity (you're not a monster, you're just misunderstood). Eventually, though, Curry becomes just another digital prop, popping up occasionally to feed you clues.

Looks great; the sinister mood is well done. Exploration is unnecessarily frustrating, game's solitary nature can get boring. Folks who loved Myst might find it appealing, but if you demand more depth, you'd probably be better off reading Shelley's book.

Quandary
Despite the stumbles in the plot, I found this to be quite an interesting game. It certainly had great potential even if it wasn't quite realised, and it has plenty of entertainment value for anyone fascinated by the macabre. After all, Frankenstein is no fairy tale. You'll get to study the odd severed arm, a couple of 'creatures' of Dr Frankenstein's very own design, as well as a bottled brain or two.

Just Adventure
Overall, a solid adventure title with several nice qualities, a strong story and challenging mechanical puzzles and two fatal flaws – the main voiceover really sucks and the game is one big maze after another. Try it if mazes don’t drive you too crazy.

Adventure Gamers
Interplay’s Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of the Monster is a mixed bag. It's a solid Myst clone with good graphics, story, and puzzles, marred by bad voiceover acting and a designer obsessed with mazes.
