Trivia

In the first release version the European manuals were mixed up. Half of the manual was in German, the rest in French and visa versa. The same happened to other languages.

In the development stage the game was named "Grand Prix 2001". But later on Infogrames decided to name it "Grand Prix 4", because it should not be one year behind EAs "F1 2002" game.

An XBox version of the game was in development. But due to the bad selling numbers (caused by the huge amount of bugs) and the Shutdown of the Microprose studios the XBox version was never published - although it was nearly finished. At a PR event two months before the release it was possible to play the game on XBox.

At the release time the game contained so many bugs that it was nearly unplayable. This was due to the fact that Infogrames rushed the release because they wanted the game to be release before EAs F1 2002.

Therefore the beta test team did not have the time to test the game and the Microprose programmers could not finish the game - this was the beginning of the end of the GP series. Three months later Infogrames shut down the Microprose studios. Geoff Crammond took his source code and is now working on a sequel to the famous Stunt Car Racer.
