The game's title screen and main menu
This is the menu that allows the player to choose from the three individual game types
This explains how the game is played. These instructions apply to all the games
These are the instructions for the Classic mode of gameplay
Playing an individual game. All games start with a 'Ready-Set-Go' countdown This is Classic mode
Playing in Classic mode Here a simple word 'TOP' has been selected Other words POINT, JOINT, WIGEON are available but were not spotted
The word TOP which was identified in the previous screenshot has been submitted. It scored bonus points because it included a gem
The end of the first level of the Classic mode. You think you've done well until the computer points out bigger words than you thought possible
Playing in Classic mode This is a level two screen and the game area is smaller which really makes the game harder
Playing in Classic mode Individual games continue until the player runs out of time, then the bomb goes off and it's all over
The high score table comes pre-loaded with some hard to beat scores The score here is 109700, the score on the previous screen was 138700. I guess the final screen does not count
These are the rules for Battle mode
Playing in Battle Mode Identical gameplay but a different way to score. By scoring points the player helps push the Mongols from the screen
Playing in Battle Mode As with Classic mode, later levels have fewer letters to make them harder
These are the rules for Conquest Mode
Playing in Conquest mode Once a tile has been used in a word tiles in that position are shown as red
This shows how combining bombs and gems can generate high scores
Playing in Conquest mode Having the tiles split like this really makes the game harder
This screenshot outlines the underlying story behind the Adventure mode
This map is used to record progress throughout the Adventure mode of the game. On the right there's always a journal entry that precedes each game
At the end of the adventure mode game there's a nice 'Thank you' letter from the emperor
The final score at the end of an adventure mode game
The pre-loaded scores on the high score table will take some beating
