Description

Gridfire is a remake of Targ/Crossfire, written for the Retro Remakes competition 2006. The player controls a ship that needs to destroy creatures invading a city. The game is played on an area with a 7x6 grid of obstacles. The ship can move around in the middle part while the creatures approach from the sides, and both can use the obstacles to hide from bullets. As soon as the creatures start to move, they can be targeted in a straight line as the ship can fire in four directions.

The creatures have four shapes that need to be destroyed before they finally vanish. Their colour, along with their shape, changes from yellow to green, red and finally pink. After a certain amount of bullets has been fired, bonus orbs are released in the middle of the screen. The ship only has 35 bullets and when there are only 10 left, an ammo icon appears. When there are only a few enemies left, they usually charge all at once. Once an entire grid is cleared, a new one is generated, with faster enemies. The ship starts with 2 lives, but more can be earned for every 5,000 points. The game comes with 3 difficulty levels.
