Not a 4X game
SharkD (313), Feb 02, 2009
Why are all the Homeworld in the 4X group? They're just simple RTSs. There's no empire expansion or system exploration. The game is mission-based, so your entire fleet moves with you when you travel. Also, you are given no choice as to which sector to move to next.

Granted, there is (was?) an unofficial mod for the first game called 'Empire vs. Republic' that added a strategic frontend, but this is not included in the regular game.

User AvatarDon't remember much about this game...have to re-install it. Er, maybe not. Though I do concur I do not recall a technological tree, nor diplomacy. Is there a "free-mode" non-campaign option?

Nope, no single-player free mode. Just the usual skirmish (death match) as far as I remember and a campaign.
