Game Chronicles
I play a lot of RTS games, but I seldom finish any of them. I generally get bored with the resource management or the micromanagement of the troops and simply give up. Rage has combined elements from almost every popular genre and borrowed great ideas from many popular games to create a perfect blend of action and strategy that kept me hooked from the opening movie to the final mission.

Hostile Waters is an extremely polished and fun offering, different from most of what is on the computer game market today. With superb graphics, sound, and music, as well as immersive and challenging gameplay, Rage has really done its job in making sure that this title has no real weaknesses. The plot development and cinematics are simply in a class by themselves. Although this title is composed of tried-and-true elements which have appeared in other games before, when considered as a whole, it is a refreshingly novel experience. So whether your taste is more oriented toward action or strategy, Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising is not to be missed.

Game Over Online
Rage Software had gained a lot of fame through its arcade like action titles like Incoming and Expendable. Hostile Waters' action components seems like a direct homage to those. Its graphical eye candy is plentiful but the action is ferociously fast. In the end, Hostile Waters bundles an engaging plot with an intriguing concept of a game. It lifts the best out of games like Homeworld, MechCommander and Uprising/Battlezone.

Playing Hostile Waters has been the most entertaining gaming experience I've had since I first tried Counter-Strike. It's a perfect blend of strategic planning and manic action, backed by a thrilling storyline and a captivating sense of realism. You feel like you're actually there, making a difference, fighting for a better future of peace and harmony. But before you reach this gameplay-unfriendly ideal, you'll have the time of your life fighting the war to achieve it.

While the game isn't perfect, this is certainly a fun and exciting blend of strategy and action.

In spite of its lack of multiplayer support, even the most jaded real-time strategy player will find something fresh and exciting in Hostile Waters.

Antaeus is best taken as what it is: an experience. It is a graphically beautiful, fully engrossing story that lets the player take the role of combatant and commander. If, in this kind of game, you tend to zip through missions only once without playing with different strategies or fully exploring the scenarios or the maps, Antaeus is probably not for you. On the other hand, if the multi-layered change of pace appeals to you, the richness and quality of the limited gameplay make the game well worth the price of admission.

While flawed, HOSTILE WATERS: ANTAEUS RISING could represent a watershed in gaming. Is this the turning point where developers stop trying to make their games compelling by borrowing the same tired elements from past titles, and actually build games that are wholly original from the ground up? HOSTILE WATERS might not achieve that perfectly. but if you’re a jaded gamer like me, this game will seem like one of the freshest breaths of air you’ve taken in a long time.

I had no idea what to expect going into this game. I knew it had to do with helicopters, and it was an Interplay product (which was encouraging), but that was about it. When the opening sequence started I began to fret — it looked like utter crap. How is it possible to have slowdown on a PC game? I can understand if it’s an FMV sequence, but a real-time cutscene should have no problem.

All in all, a pretty good game that has some nice ideas and additions to the strategy genre. Those strategists who want to work on their battlefield commanding ability will enjoy this game more than people whose greatest thrill is decimating an enemy with an unstoppable force.

Despite some of its quirks, Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising is a good game that has the trapping of a great game. Playing both the overall commander and the grunt in the cockpit is a blast. It's a "one night stand" of a game, pretty but not perfect, a nice way to kill some time, and it's good for the duration as long as you don't think too hard about it. However, when you look at the other better games on your shelves that go un-played, you just might feel some guilt the next morning…

Hostile Waters is an entertaining enough game, but it could have been a lot more. The poor AI makes playing it something of a chore at times, while the impressive graphics come at a high cost, and you will need a fast PC to get the most out of it. It is also fairly limited, lacking any of the quick play missions, random skirmishes or multiplayer options that most games in this genre sport.

ActionTrip
Altogether, well Hostile Waters irritated me a bit at first... Then, I got used to it and played it enjoying it... If you want an action strategy with unique moments, and you don't mind stupid camera placement, and you're not too much into online fighting, and live in Europe, Hostile Waters is a decent choice (although this narrows down the potential fan base somewhat, doesn't it).

You can tell that the folks from Rage/Interplay had some interesting ideas when creating Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising. The game provides what at first appears to be an interesting mix of 3D action and real-time strategy. Yet, although the 3D environments feel genuine and promise the most fun, I found myself hesitating to command my units with keyboard/mouse controls, since the computer AI can handle it much more efficiently... and that kind of defeats the whole purpose. Ultimately, a gap-filled and very linear storyline, a lack of any sort of multiplayer or joystick support, and the relative ease of mission completion undermine any real value here for the gamer.
