The Hulk is a fun, mindless and short romp that will entertain action fans. However, the redundancy of the gameplay will keep the game from being a long-term investment of time. Hardcore Hulk fans will appreciate the extra features, but anyone else will be satisfied with one go-through.

Using the proper "destroy everything" approach that a game of this nature needs in conjunction with an easy to learn combo system, Hulk doesn't steer action fans wrong too often. The real treat, however, is sitting back and waiting for a rumored and possible sequel -- a game that will more than likely fix the nitpicks of this version. All they have to do is drop the Banner segments, tack on 20 more levels, throw in a few new moves, and put us face-to-face with Abomination and we could easily find ourselves in beat 'em up heaven. In the meantime, this first rendition of the Hulk is pretty darned satisfying. Definitely worth a try.

For the Hulk, the designers have drawn heavily from the film's look. Gamma base looks exactly as Ang Lee imagined it and you'll see lots of familiar props and sets. You'll see them, and then you'll destroy them. But they also paid homage to the comic by giving everything a light and surprisingly effective cel-shaded look. Everything in the game is just beautiful to look at and all the animation is both convincing and stylish. There are 30 missions total, and each one features a slightly different look and new things to smash.

My reaction to The Hulk varied over the course of the game. At first I was frustrated by the control issues and the boring opening mission, where instead of throwing barrels and crates I was cowering behind them. Keyboard confusion got me killed a few times by run-of-the-mill soldiers, and I found the sneak around/solve puzzles stuff as Bruce Banner dreary. Things improved after the first half-hour or so, although I’m still unsure whether the game actually got a lot better (it definitely got somewhat better, as I soon got to toss around cars and smash down walls) or I just got used to the disappointing control system. There was always a little frustration bubbling under the surface of the cool “Man, I just knocked down ten guys by clapping my hands!” stuff. Regardless, I still have to give The Hulk a top grade. It’s a great recreation of the old Marvel comic book to which geeks like myself will quickly warm, and the best use of a movie license in at least a couple of years.

The Hulk work good with keyboard, but I like using force-feedback gamepad — it rumbles when Hulk smash. But there only five save-game slots, and progress save only at end of level. GRRR! Lazy console port make Chulk angry. Me like game. Me like unlocked mini-challenges, movie trailers, and other extras. It only $29.99. The Hulk is strongest one there is.

Game Chronicles
The Hulk isn’t a bad game by any means. While I did find it boring near the end I really can’t think of anyway you could have made it better and I’m guessing the designers fell victim to the limitations of the main character. After all, when all you can do is rampage and smash things, how creative can you really get? I was bored with Spider-Man by the end of that game. These superheroes are one-trick ponies and once you have seen them perform the show is over and it’s time to move along. Despite the shallow gameplay, playing the Hulk is a guilty pleasure and with all of his trademark moves intact there are dozens of ways to dispatch your enemy and destroy your surroundings. If you are a true Hulk fan then this is a definite purchase. If you just want a weekend rampage then rent before you buy and save yourself some “green”.

Much like The Hulk comic book revolved around a story of two opposing personalities, this game is a story about two very opposing gameplay modes. The stealth segment with Bruce Banner is too simplistic and flawed to be truly engaging, but the segment with The Hulk more than makes up for it. The game is ultimately very linear and shallow, and it doesn't do the comic book characters justice, but it's still enjoyable and addictive if viewed as a pure arcade action / beat-em-up experience.

Phase Beat Them All : on joue Hulk, on casse tout, on s'éclate. Phase Infiltration : on joue David Banner. On rampe.

The bottom line here is that the game was meant for consoles, and renting. It's seriously fun and additive.... for a few hours. The game loses its flavor quicker than a pack of Fruit Stripes gum... It's colorful and packs a ton of enjoyment at first, a few minutes later it turns gray and tastes like a rubber eraser.

Overall, the game works well for fans of Marvel's green giant. As a tie in to the movie, it's a little off (will there be a sequel to the movie, and will it acknowledge the events in the game) but good nonetheless. While there are flaws in the execution of the game, they aren't major enough to prevent it from being enjoyable for true believers.

Eigenlijk is The Hulk vooral een gemiste kans.

Jeder PC-Besitzer
hat eine Maus – also, liebe Entwickler, nutzt
sie auch. Und eine Festplatte bietet mehr
als genug Raum für Spielstände, die ich
gefälligst jederzeit anlegen können will!
