EIDOS INTERACTIVE SHIPS THE PC VERSION OF DEATHTRAP DUNGEON Inspired by the Multi-Million Selling Fighting Fantasy Book Series by Ian Livingstone
June 25, 1998, San Francisco - Eidos Interactive, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of interactive entertainment products and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eidos plc (Nasdaq:EIDSY), today announced the release of Deathtrap Dungeon for PC CD-ROM. Recently released on the PlayStation platform, Deathtrap Dungeon debuted in the top five during its first full month on retail shelves.
In Deathtrap Dungeon game players can battle more than 50 monstrous characters to the bloody end in this fast and furious 3D action/combat game. It features full 3D gameplay in 10 torturous levels with an intuitive third person camera system as players guide the chosen male or female character through sweeping levels of mazes, corridors and dungeons. To survive, players must also avoid deadly traps including hidden corridors, false floors, covered pits, hails of arrows and moving spikes all while battling fire-breathing dragons, homicidal mummies, overgrown sewer rats, and deadly zombies.
For close combat action, players can wield a choice of swords and hammers and for long-range battles there are a variety of weapons including flame-throwers and muskets. Players also have the ability to cast spells, such as the exploding flying pig spell.
The game is inspired by the famed Fighting Fantasy gamebook series, created by Eidos Chairman, Ian Livingstone. To date, Fighting Fantasy books have sold more than 14 million copies in 23 languages.
