Black Isle Studios used to code-name its projects after U.S. presidents and vice-presidents, an idea by Josh Sawyer. The code-name for this game is Project Adams.

A free expansion pack for Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter was made available after the release of this add-on. It is called Trials of the Luremaster and features new areas, new quests, new challenges, new character portraits, monsters, and more. The pack plugs directly into the game and was created due to criticism that Heart of Winter was too short.
