After you grasp the format, the games are simpler to understand, so in time it may well become just a diversion. For now though, I dare not switch on my computer for fear of seeing yet another evening (and my wildly exaggerated social life) slip into a timeless blackhole of archaeological related adventures. Thanks LucasArts, this is what I needed to ensure I never do any work again.

Indiana Jones and his Desktop Adventures isn't great—in fact, its low quality graphics, sound, and control keep me from even calling it good, but it is a nice way to waste a few hours while you're stuck on a plane with a laptop. If you were a big fan of the early eighties Nintendo adventure games, check this one out. If, however, you're a fan of high production values or novel video gaming, you'll probably want to leave this one on the shelf.

However, if you're a small child, or an adult like me who can play mindlessly for hours in some kind of vegetative zone, all the while planning your budget, making important phone calls, doing yoga or simply daydreaming, Indy Desktop might prove to be a pleasing activity. In spite of some cumbersome navigation issues and an occasional cursor-paints-the-screen bug, I really enjoy it. It's sorta like a casual affair. You can play with it for hours on end. You might even take it home to meet Mom...but will you respect it in the morning? Nah.

The only things that really change are the types of items to find and where they're located. Technically, Indiana Jones is different and the first dozen times, but after that you get a funny feeling of "deja vu all over again". Low price aside, this game should have been better.

Adventure Classic Gaming
Perhaps Indiana Jones and His Desktop Adventures has started out as a sound idea--to make an Indiana Jones game for the causal gamer who can pick it up quickly and play it for a relaxing moment. As a freeware game, it is perhaps worthy of a quick look. As a commercial game, however, it fails in too many aspects, even as a desktop game. In the end, it is an adventure that is too quickly forgotten, with or without Indy.
