Adventure Europe

The puzzles and the graphics are enough to recommend Jack Orlando to serious adventure game fans. There are no mystical overtones, no science-fiction angle. It's a straightforward whodunit puzzle-solver with terrible dialogue and some really strange dead ends.

Adventure Lantern
In summary, I enjoyed playing this game, traversing the many scenes and talking to the many and varied characters. There are over 20 different interactive characters. The basis of the story was also great, however, in my opinion the game could have had a better flow. It is entertaining to go through the game for the first time, but few players will probably be tempted to hit these mean streets more than once. Mainly due to its pleasant graphics, Jack Orlando is a notch above being bargain bin material, but it is nothing breathtaking.

Adventure Zone

Quandary
Even with its few blemishes Jack Orlando is an enjoyable adventure game for detective fans and for those of you who, like me, have a soft spot for third-person perspective, inventory-based games. It isn't mind-numbingly difficult so experienced players may feel that it could have been longer and a little more complex, but those new to adventuring shouldn't feel too daunted by it. Either way it has a good few hours of entertainment to offer.

Just Adventure
For a game that has hand-drawn animated 2D graphics featuring 65,000 colors, light sourcing and over 100 characters in more than 200 different scenes Jack Orlando suffers from The Road to India syndrome. Streets are eerily empty. Traffic is non-existent. When an automobile or pedestrian does appear, we notice more because the emptiness of the atmosphere has been shattered. Characters though are large and detailed and there is a crispness and vibrancy to the animation. While the graphics are easily the highlight of the game, they are still not enough to salvage an overall below average product.

Adventure Gamers
Jack Orlando: A Cinematic Adventure is a game that's hard to assess an "overall" rating. Whilst there are some truly special production values and meritorious ideas trying to escape here, the abysmal design, translation, and voice acting pull it down. To say this game is mediocre, or disappointing, or average simply doesn't do it justice. There's nothing "average" about it; just a mix of wildly varying and inconsistent elements. By the end of it I had become rather drawn to its hapless protagonist and charmed with all the little idiosyncrasies, but if I am to recommend it to you, it comes with a pretty strong note of caution that it is both brilliant and atrocious by turns, and probably best enjoyed with a walkthrough in one hand and perhaps a bottle of Jack's favourite bootleg whisky in another.
