Jane's Combat Simulations: USAF

USAF is a lot of fun! It will appeal to both hardcore and casual flight sim players because of the fun factor. Beautiful graphics, a promising online experience, and a limitless User Mission editor all add up to an excellent simulation. The issue with the friendly A.I. and some other minor bugs must be fixed however and I’m am confidant they will. Jane’s has a good record of releasing patches on a timely basis. With this in mind, if you have any desire for a good military flight sim that will provide hours of enjoyment, this is the sim for you. I highly recommend it!

Mit USAF setzen die Jane’s-Entwickler konsequent das fort, was sie mit Israeli Air Force begonnen haben. Nämlich Flugsimulationen zu schaffen, die Fortgeschrittene nicht überfordern, aber auch für Profis interessant bleiben. Am besten hat mir aber gefallen, daß USAF immer noch ein Spiel bleibt und sich nicht im übertriebenen Schraubenrealismus verliert. Wer nur ein bißchen den Afterburner reinknallen will, um ein paar Gegner vom Himmel zu holen, ist genauso gut aufgehoben wie Radartüftler mit Hang zu actionlastigen Luftkämpfen. Jaja, puristische Simulanten werden die Nase hochgerümpft erheben und mangelnde Ernsthaftigkeit beklagen. Doch davon sollten Sie sich nicht beirren lassen: USAF ist eine gelungene Mischung fordernder Simulationselemente mit rassigen Luftgefechten.

Of course, outside of the A-10, few planes get low enough for these terrain issues to have a serious impact. The balance of the sim measures up to the high quality we've come to expect from Jane's. Since it will be the basis of the action in the highly anticipated Jane's World War, we'll likely to being playing this one fore some time to come.

Door de vele opties, de grote variatie en de knappe graphics is dit spel zeker een aanrader, al moet je d'r wel wat geklooi met je joystick voor over hebben! Daarna is het enkel genieten!

A straight line runs from Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, one of the most revered and influential PC flight sims, to Jane's new survey sim USAF. The Jane's tradition of accessible flight simulations with plenty of planes and options has given us Air Combat, US Navy Fighters, Advanced Tactical Fighters, and Israeli Air Force, with steady improvement and little deviation from the formula. USAF is no exception, but is poised to take the survey sim into new territory.

Imagine my consternation. I have been asked to write a review on the latest and greatest from EA's Jane's line, USAF. I've played flight sims for many years and while I enjoy World War II the most, I've spent many an hour swapping lead with everyone from the Red Baron to your future Russian Mig pilot. While it doesn't offer the "mindless" dogfight fix that we all crave (come on, admit it), it does deliver lots of mission types, numerous planes and the attention to detail that is synonymous with Jane's.

Die interaktive Geschichtsstunde! USAF simuliert die wichtigsten Arbeitsgeräte und Konflikte der amerikanischen Luftwaffe. Ultrarealistische Flugsimulationen wie Falcon 4.0 schrecken viele Gelegenheitspiloten mit Handbüchern im Telefonbuchformat und dreifach belegter Tastatur schon vor der ersten Trainingsmission ab. Jane's geht den etwas einfacheren Weg. Statt schraubengenauer Technik bietet USAF Flugzeuge, Missionen und Action satt. Wer die intensive Flugschule hinter sich bringt, dürfte fit genug sein, in einer der Kampagnen die Interessen der freien Welt zu verteidigen.

Auch das zweite Werk von Pixel Multimedia weiß zu gefallen. Die Kombination aus halbdynamischen und exakt vorgeschriebenen Feldzügen ist gut abgestimmt. Die Präsentation fällt zwar allenfalls durchschnittlich, aber auch ordentlich aus. Leider fehlt eine Multimedia-CD mit Hintergrundinfos wie noch bei Israeli Air Force. Alle wichtigen Flieger neueren Datums finden sich jedoch in dieser Flugsimulation. Weiterhin freuen sich alle Neulinge über dieses Spiel, denn das Beherrschen der Maschinen setzt kein Ingenieurstudium voraus.

Jane's USAF is more than just a soft-core game with some simulations aspects. It manages to very successfully bridge that fine gap between "fun to play" and "complicated and hard-core". Beginner flight sim players should definitely give this one a look, but it also has strengths that a veteran can appreciate. USAF came to me a soft-core flight game and now resides on my hard drive as a challenging and fun flight simulation.
