Here is a male sniper of the Joint Ops team.
Training missions and the standard single-/multi- player mission list. Let's try a helicopter training mission. There will be some enemies even in the training missions.
Mission briefing, something to read while loading.
Take a seat in the Little Bird. The left part of the HUD shows the soldiers outfit.
Using binoculars in the helicopter to spy on the enemy camp. Note the left part of the HUD is showing the helicopter outline.

Commanders interface - In multiplayer, someone can take the role of a team leader and gather players in squads, set up waypoints to follow and give orders for them to follow. (Alpha-Echo)
Each player also has a 'radio' interface with predefined words to call out to the others, by the character. (there is also a text chat) In the background, the waypoints are seen on the HUD.
If you wonder about the map icons, here is a legend.
You can have your own server, hosting on LAN or internet, with the maps included with the game, as well as with community made maps.
To not overload your connection, there is help to limit the server, from one to 64 players if you have a T3 speed.
Player roles and weapon availability can be limited if there is need.
A good single/cooperative multiplayer map has a briefing that tells you what to do. (community made maps sometimes lack this)
Since cooperative multiplayer maps can be joined while in progress, it's also important to know what has been accomplished of the goals. (this is also missing from many community made maps)
You can swim underwater, but not for too long. The water color is defined by the map maker.
It's easier to take a distance shot as a sniper than carving a hole in their boat from under water.
