Commanders interface - In multiplayer, someone can take the role of a team leader and gather players in squads, set up waypoints to follow and give orders for them to follow. (Alpha-Echo)

Each player also has a 'radio' interface with predefined words to call out to the others, by the character. (there is also a text chat) In the background, the waypoints are seen on the HUD.

You can have your own server, hosting on LAN or internet, with the maps included with the game, as well as with community made maps.
thumbnail
To not overload your connection, there is help to limit the server, from one to 64 players if you have a T3 speed.
thumbnail
Player roles and weapon availability can be limited if there is need.
thumbnail
A good single/cooperative multiplayer map has a briefing that tells you what to do. (community made maps sometimes lack this)
thumbnail
Since cooperative multiplayer maps can be joined while in progress, it's also important to know what has been accomplished of the goals. (this is also missing from many community made maps)

You can swim underwater, but not for too long. The water color is defined by the map maker.
