I was lucky enought to have Kana as my first eroge game. I can also recommend:

Crescendo * reallistic characters and believable plot

Sensei 2 * twisted, although interesting, ways how to get girls

Virgin Roster * similar to previous, main character which was hatable

In other eroge games that I tried the characters were quite dumb, though interesting (just) at the beginning. It's luck, if the characters are written to be funny and if it works. But after nice introduction (if there is) those games turn to be pathetic soap operas.

Kana was also soap opera, but that had similar function to way Peter Jackson made LOTR trilogy (to keep you here). And from most part it was not distracting at all.

Is there something similar to Kana? If you know about some game for adults not for "sex-crazed kids" please post it here. Thanks.

Best regards - hribek -

I think the results that you suggest will primarily yield to him games for sex-crazed kids. Not all adult games are made equal -- Little Sister is renowned (or so I've heard, it falling outside my experience) as a dramatic masterpiece with eroticism, while most "adult games" compare about as well as would the crude diagrams doodled on any public bathroom door. There's a certain dividing line between Anais Nin and Penthouse Forum. I understand that from an outsider's perspective they must all blur together, but not all adult games need necessarily be porno smut... just, sadly, the vast, vast majority of them. (Certainly none of the titles I've submitted to our adult category here will do anything to challenge this impression 8)

Most eroge games I've tried are pretty much just poorly made games as an excuse to show you a bunch of hentai pictures. Some are interesting and have their own charm. A lot of them are just... messed up. Then again, you can't always expect good writing when it comes to what is essentially porn.

Des Blood 4. It's a bit Japanese-RPG-like in story and overall feel, but it's quite serious and anyway much more engaging that your typical hentai story. Not to mention that it has real gameplay and the sex scenes are real-time 3D interaction.

You might enjoy A-GA as well, but the sex scenes there are very, very violent.

Ever 17 - Brilliant plot, and the final path (after getting the previous 10 endings) will blow your mind. No sex. Almost on a par with Kana, in my opinion.

Yume Miru Kusuri: - Beautiful artwork and music. Not as well known as the others since it's a fairly recent translation, but one of the best, especially Aeka's path. I love the moral ambiguity of the stories. I prefer Crescendo to this, but not by much.

I don't think YMK is on Mobygames. I've been meaning to add it.

EDIT: - Wikipedia spoils both games. Stay away

The words "enjoy", "sex" and "violent" shouldn't be in the same sentence. Well, except your sentences, Oleg.

Still, A-GA is a successful work of "art" because it takes the conventions of a hentai "game" and turns it on its head. The result is a bad game that can't be "enjoyed" in the traditional hentai sense. (maybe "can't should be replaced with "shouldn't", but then there are too many parenthesises in this post already). A-GA is engrossing all the same, though.

This begs the question: why should we ask that which titillates us to also move and interest us? Do we need to be stimulated in many ways all at once?

Dude,

can't say about the other games, but Virgin Roster isn't interesting. It's interesting as a wank piece to its depiction of a psychopath and how evil and despicable he will be as he destroys the lives of several women (Virgin Roster is on par as good and descriptive a title as, say, "Star Wars" or "Deep Throat").

As completely wonderful and splendid as that is, it isn't interesting. Nothing changes in the story, just rape and hate, wash and rinse. It's like an evil "On Golden Pond", but without Henry Fonda.

[/Q --end lasttoblame wrote--] Yes. I liked it because it succesfully created an emotion of hate towards main character. I found quite interesting Tsukihime. Though i haven't finished it. It was good in horror scenes. Until now i have skipped about 3/4 dialogues. And that's what I want to add. You know, those stupid dialogues are in general much worse than boring raping, and that is pretty bad.

I remember I played a PC-98 game port that was translated to Chinese back in day when hentai hadn't found it's way into the western market yet.

I swear, you have never seen BAD dialogs until you've played these games. I remember distinctly one game was supposed to be the day in life of this office lady. she goes out shopping, and goes into a shoe store. Oh look, these are nice! But wait, it's like, 200 bucks! and she has no cash on her! oh well, looks like she'll have to whore herself out a little to pay for the shoes. so she bangs the shoe store clerk. later, she goes back to her apartment, and the landlord is demanding rent. oops, haven't gotten paid from work yet. guess where this is going?

and so on, and so forth.

and then there are games that is just messed up. There's a game called "custom mate" where you play a newly wed couple. (or rather, just the husband) the idea is that you can create the kind of woman you ended up marrying. For some strange reason, you're able to marry a girl between the ages of 16-18, but that's it. Apparently, marrying a woman older than that is somehow less desirable. As if that's not weird enough, the next part is. For some strange reason, your married life is basically an elaborate "bribe your wife with crappy gifts so you can do her in the pooper" sort of action. It's just... I don't know... makes me think I married Eminem's ex-wife or something.

My understanding is that in Japan, 25 is actually considered the threshold of permanent spinsterhood (or "Christmas cake", a dish only considered palatable during a very brief window around the holiday season.)
