The overall score in this case does not mean a whole lot. Here come the five most important words in this review: do not buy this game. Don’t buy it if it’s in the bargain bin, and don’t play it if someone gives it to you as a gift. Use the CD as a coaster, or a frisbee, or for skeet shooting. Be sure to recycle the manual, we’ve killed enough trees already. Ok, maybe it is not that bad, but it is pretty close. Maxis, who puts out Tony LaRussa Baseball (a game I happen to really like), got this one all wrong. Kickoff ’97 has way too many flaws and the way the game controls are set up kill any chance of you having fun playing this game. So, don’t even try. If you need a good soccer game, I think FIFA ’97 should do the trick. Sega also just put out a soccer game that I am getting ready to review, so maybe that one will give you more options.
