Look out Lara Croft, Raziel has taken over the neighborhood. From the first moment I loaded the game I knew I was going to love it. The graphics were spectacular and the gameplay was flawless. I only found a couple of problems in the game: first, the save game feature was a little annoying but after playing with it for awhile I realized that it was actually nice to have teleporters for traveling around the land. Second, there isn’t any multiplayer support, but then again Tomb Raider never had any either and look how well that did in the stores. Lastly, the ending! How can you end a game that is this good? Personally I would have made enough levels so that the consumer could play for at least 24 months. So what if the game would have to fit on 47 CDs, I would build a new room on my house to accommodate them. I mean c’mon now, I have to sit around and wait for the sequel?

Slick, darkly seductive, involved, engrossing, moody. Violent and Gory. Cool.

One of most brooding, broad and bloody adventure games of the year is finally here.

If Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver were longer and if there weren’t quite as many graphical glitches, it would be gaming perfection. As it is, get it anyway -- you won’t regret it. It’s good, macabre fun.

Obviously when Soul Reaver comes out on PC you know the graphics and speed is going to be a lot better, the textures are bound to look sharper, the sound will be of a higher quality because there is more ram to work with and the lighting effects will be stunning. Yeah well maybe that's not the case this time. The graphics are simply stunning however they are not that much different from the PlayStation, of course you can get a higher resolution etc, but as the PlayStation version simply was stunning for the spec of the machine there is very little difference.

Unlike movies, computer game sequels are usually better than their predecessors. Most game designers aim to retain what made the original so sought-after while updating graphics, adding options and applying feedback. Fortunately, this is the case with Crystal Dynamics' Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.

A solid take on a third-person adventure game that shows that vampire games don’t have to suck.

While Soul Reaver starts strong, its gameplay gradually wears thin and ultimately falls short of the game's high ambitions.

Gamer's Pulse
While Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is neither a faithful sequel, nor a ground-breaking game, it offers a great amount of originality and fun game play. While the puzzles bear close resemblance to many other games, they have enough difference and ingenuity to make them stand apart from the crowd. The action is on par with most FPS and fighting games, reminding me a great deal of the gothic action game Nightmare Creatures released a year or so ago. With impressive graphics, great sound, and a solid story, Legacy of Kain is definitely worth investing your time and money into.

Game Over Online
The storyline of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is excellent and will definitely appeal to fans of the last Kain title. The graphics are much improved and though blocky at times, are more than adequate and do enhance the dark atmosphere of Nosgath as well as the darker atmosphere of the spectral realm. The one major drawback of the title is the camera movement. Though it's automated and follows the character (ala Tomb Raider), several times it rotates to an angle in front of Raziel and you can't see where you're going or what's ahead. This can be very confusing, especially when precision jumping is involved. There are however zooming and panning keys. The combat system is great and reminds me of days of yore when games such as Quest for Glory II offered the same style of battles. This game is definetly more for intermediate players as some of the puzzles can be rather taxing.

Games come out for both the PC and console platforms more and more commonly these days. One of the latest is Eidos Interactive's offering, Legacy of Kain 2: Soul Reaver. Despite being a sequel, this game isn't really much like its predecessor. It pretty much stands on its own, having transitioned from a roleplaying-style game to the adventure-type, and existing in a much more barren world where just about everything is an enemy to be destroyed. The storyline, however, redeems the game to some extent, as does the fact that it really is more about thinking than just about blindly running through level after level. Players will take note: while the enemies in most cases are ridiculously easy to defeat, the game itself will require every bit of wits and imagination they have to solve.

Soul sucking, that is. Even though we wish Crystal Dynamics would clean up the game's camera and the hampering effect it has on control, we liked Soul Reaver. It's pretty, it's fun, it has the right balance of simplicity and variety, and it's extremely well scripted. The only thing it's really missing is Sarah Michele Gellar. When Buffy isn't on, though, Soul Reaver is a good bet to sate your vampire-slaying desire. Check this bad boy out.

Unfortunately, the horrible ending to this game has ruined what looked to be a good contender for the one of the best PC games of the year. All the potential is there, but Eidos and Crystal Dynamics simply released an unfinished product. While the gameplay up to the ending is fine, the abrupt conclusion will leave many gamers feeling completely ripped off. Furthermore, Soul Reav...

Computer Gaming World (CGW)
The gameplay is very good for a third-person game, with minimal camera problems and a good amount of varied forms of combat. Devouring souls, Raziel’s method of powering up, rarely gets old. What does get old, however, is looking at SOUL REAVER’s visuals, which are mind-numbingly boring. It’s too bad Eidos couldn’t put some effort into sprucing up the game’s graphics when they ported this game to the PC. As a result, what was a very good game for the PlayStation will probably fail to satisfy PC garners.

My first impression of this game was slickness. The voice acting was incredible and the graphics were good, and it seemed to have and interesting premise. I was quickly proved wrong.

If you absolutely must have jumping puzzles, Soul Reaver is for you. If you don't, there are better ways to spend your gaming dollar. Oh, and by the way, souls taste slightly like lime Jell-O.
