Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events

If you are fortunate enough to belong to that ever growing gaggle of Adventure Gamers who own both a PC and a gaming console, and think you would enjoy this genre, I encourage you to do as I did and play both the PC and the Console versions, for while they are similar in look they are solidly singular in their approach. I highly recommend them both, and look forward to Mr. Snicket's next installment.

Overall, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events is a good movie-to-game adaptation. The gameplay is pretty undemanding but fundamentally sound; the different characters manage the spice the game up a bit, as well. The game would be rated higher if the length was a touch longer; it clocks in at just over 5 hours. On the other hand, children should play for a considerable longer bit of time. The PC version of the game was changed for the worse; the console versions are recommended due to their more accurate control scheme and level variety.

L'aventure est étonnamment plaisante à jouer, et seul un manque de précision dans les phases d'action est à déplorer. Si comme moi vous n'aviez encore jamais entendu parler des Désastreuses Aventures Des Orphelins Baudelaire, le jeu risque fort de vous donner envie de parcourir les romans originaux.

This game though features the three Baudelaire orphans, each with their own skills. They are told mysteriously that they have been orphaned when a fire burns down their house. They are forced to live with their evil Uncle Olaf. Klaus, Violet, and Sunny the baby are each played in different scenes where their individual skills come into play. Violet creates inventions from everyday objects a la MacGyver. Klaus is the brains of the operation: his keen mind is suited to solving puzzles and riddles. Sunny, being a baby, can get into smaller spaces that the others can’t get to. She also has razor sharp teeth that seem able to bite through almost anything from ropes to wood and metal!

Lemony Snicket ist eher ein Jump-and-Run mit Adventureelementen als umgekehrt und damit im Archiv beinahe schon ein wenig deplaziert. Optisch und vom Spielprinzip ähnelt es sehr den Harry Potter-Spielen. Der anfangs sehr einfache Schwierigkeitsgrad der Action steigt stetig an und hinterher braucht man schon ein geschicktes Händchen und Geduld, um die Endgegner zu besiegen. Dabei empfand ich die kombinierte Maus/Tastatursteuerung als nicht unbedingt hilfreich. Die Grafik ist sehr solide und es macht Spaß, die Villa mit ihren Geheimräumen- und Gängen zu erkunden. Daher ist Lemony Snicket dennoch ziemlich unterhaltsam und für Spieler, die vor Action nicht zurückschrecken, eine kurzweilige Alternative für Zwischendurch.

Lemony Snicket: Rätselhafte Ereignisse ist vergleichbar mit dem Idealbild einer Frau: unkompliziert, anspruchslos und optisch überzeugend. Genau wie die in den USA erfolgreiche Buchreihe richtet sich die Thematik eher an sechs- bis zwölfjährige Zockerlehrlinge. Aufgepasst! Ähnlich wie bei der Filmumsetzung zu Spider-Man 2 bieten die Konsolenfassungen deutlich mehr spielerische Tiefe. Optik oder Anspruch - Sie haben die Wahl.

Trotz aller Pluspunkte ist Lemony Snicket vor allem ein Spiel für die jüngere Generation. Die stört sich nicht weiter am simplen Spielablauf und ist länger auf der Flucht vor Onkel Olaf. Erfahrene Spieler sind ihm nämlich nach knapp fünf Stunden entkommen.

Overall, the game is well designed for its audience, but I would have to advise that players above the age of approximately 12 will not find it very appealing. If you're a parent whose child loves the books, the game is probably a good choice.

The popular children's series of books "A Series of Unfortunate Events", is coming to the theater soon in the form of a movie based on the first few in the series, and Activision, in partnership with DreamWorks, Paramount and Nickelodeon, has published a game based on the movie for the Xbox, PS2, GameCube, GBA and PC, all of which have been developed by Amaze Entertainment. The console versions are pretty similar across the board (not sure about the GBA version), but the PC version is a little different in terms of gameplay, even though the story elements are the same.

This is the second time Activision has taken a successful console game based on a popular movie license and pretty much wrecked it in the translation to the PC. It's not that I think the console version of Lemony Snicket is all that great, mind you, but it is definitely better than the PC version.

Activision seems to have a tendency to take a great console game and screw it up for the PC. Much like Spider-Man 2, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events featured a sound game design on the console, so why tinker with something that isn’t broke? I had just finished playing the Xbox and GameCube versions of this game before tackling the PC version, so the changes were probably more pronounced for me than those who might just play the PC version and never see the (better) console games.

Oh, those poor Baudelaire children. Life in general has taken sour turn after sour turn, leaving them in a pit of misery with no end in sight. Fire, earthquake, flood and hurricane have all sought them out and demolished their lives. Add on top of that a game that, like their existence, only holds fleeting pleasure before disappearing like so many unsuspecting relatives.

Er erschleicht sich zu Beginn das Vertrauen des Testamentsvollstreckers ihrer Eltern, um zum Vormund erklärt zu werden, verfolgt sie unaufhörlich und sperrt sie in seiner Villa ein. In Lemony Snicket: Rätselhafte Ereignisse steuern Sie das Trio und durchkreuzen Olafs Erbschaftspläne mit viel Cleverness und Geschick. Dabei helfen die besonderen Begabungen der Kinder.

"Lemony Snicket" tenta ser um game voltado aos mais jovens com seu desafio baixo, mas o resultado é um game simples e repetitivo, com um controle complexo demais para iniciantes. O melhor aspecto, sua narrativa, só pode ser aproveitado por pessoas com amplo domínio do inglês.

Wie entsteht ein schlechtes Action-Adventure? Ganz einfach: Man mische detailarme Grafik, doofe Gegner, schwammige Steuerung und simple Rätsel. Damit es sich verkauft, würze man den Einheitsbrei mit einer Filmlizenz samt Original-Stimmen. Und voilà, fertig ist Lemony Snicket.
