I either set my expectations too high for this game or Links really fumbled the ball on this one. It's not that it is a bad game; there just isn't enough of it. I would have really liked to see another two or three courses to play, because as it is, I feel gamers will get bored very quickly with the 1 1/2 courses provided. The driving range won't keep your attention for very long either; it should take most gamers a couple of times to figure out how to rack up really high scores (hint: think balloons). I had fun playing this game the first couple of times, but after that it just didn't hold my attention. If I had a few more courses to play, that might not have happened. If you're a kid, you will like this game; but for us golfers, I would recommend waiting until they try this idea again, because for now there just isn't anything to hold you down in your computer chair.

Sure it's silly and comical, but in a golf game? There is nothing wrong with the game technically, I just can't figure out who the target audience is supposed to be. Golf sim fans might want to play around with it for a little while, but will probably just go back to the regular courses after a little tinkering. Arcade game fans might enjoy the gameplay, but will probably be frustrated by the Links LS engine which might be too cumbersome for that type of play. Sure, the amateur swings are implemented, but it still isn't shooting gallery material. All in all, Links Extreme is a mix of genres that would probably have been better served left separate. Bottom Line: All the power of the Links engine with the gameplay of an arcade shooting gallery. If that sounds good to you, you'll probably enjoy this game. Very silly and somewhat entertaining, the game mixes genres that probably shouldn't have been mixed.
Gaming Entertainment Monthly
I thought there was still some hope for Links Extreme, as sometimes average games are saved by brilliant multiplayer. Not this game. Add to that some flaws, such as the putting just NOT being as finely tuned as other Links games, some annoying glitches with the camera, and Links Extreme just doesn't make the cut. The game may have had potential, and the designers just didn't achieve it, or the game may have been doomed from the start as being a poor concept. Either way, Links Extreme is kind of fun for a while, but soon wears thin very quickly.
Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
Links Extreme offers an interesting concept and a few good ideas, but the lack of courses is stifling, the ball options in Extreme and Poison modes get old quickly, and nothing manages to prolong the novelty of any part of this offering for any length of time. If you want golf, play golf. If you want to blow stuff up, there are better ways out there to do it.

The revered Links series meets MTV in this bizarre - and hideously unsuccessful - spin-off.
