Madden NFL 06

The completely overhauled Madden '06 is one of the best entrants in the venerable series and is arguably the most advancing football game since Sega's NFL 2K. It is at times easier and much more challenging than its predecessors, and is a fine game even if there are no other NFL choices on the market.

Madden NFL 06 lohnt sich - auch wenn Ihre Schränke wegen der vielen Vorgänger aus den Nähten platzen. Um das Spiel zu genießen, bringen Sie besser viel Zeit mit, denn eine spannende Partie kann schon mal zwei Stunden dauern.

Im Gegensatz zu den etwas innovationsarmen Vorgängern gibt es dieses Jahr mit der neuen Karriere sowie der überarbeiteten Steuerung ("Quarterback Vision Control") gleich zwei revolutionäre Neuerungen. Letzt Genannte macht das Spiel etwas schwieriger, aber dafür realistischer: Receiver, die im Blickfeld des Spielers stehen und per Knopfdruck aufblicken, lassen sich nun leichter anspielen als zuvor.

Ich behalte gern den Überblick – auf meinem Schreibtisch und bei Sportspielen. Und genau deshalb kann ich mit dem neuen Pass-System nichts anfangen: zu kompliziert, zu fummelig. Viele Football-Fans werden deshalb frustriert wieder den Vorgänger hervorkramen. Macht aber nix, denn ansonsten gibt’s ohnehin kaum Neuerungen. Wie immer ein tolles Spiel, aber für einen Neukauf reicht’s mir dieses Jahr nicht.

Et bien voilà, John Madden réalise encore une sacrée performance avec la série qu'il sponsorise. L'édition 2006 reprend le meilleur de l'opus 2005 et y ajoute suffisamment de nouveautés en terme de gameplay et de modes de jeux pour entretenir la flamme du football et la faire briller encore un an, jusqu'à Madden 07.

Muutama mukava lisäominaisuus, uudet joukkueet ja siinä se. Madden NFL 06 on sitä samaa mitä EA on pistänyt ulos vuodesta toiseen. Edelleen paras (ja ainoa) jenkkifutispeli. Tekniikka on kuitenkin ajamassa ohi, ja peli kaipaisi vähitellen isompaa ulkonäköremonttia.

Was tun mit einer fast perfekten Football-Simulation? Man spendiert ihr zwei fragwürdige neue Features und verkauft sie ein Jahr später noch einmal zum Vollpreis. Madden 06 sieht aus wie sein Vorgänger und spielt sich auch so.

If Madden is your yearly pick up, by all means go out and get it. You'll be receiving more of what you've grown to enjoy, but only aggravated by the QB Vision. Just because this is your only alternative for NFL this year doesn't mean you need to buy it. ESPN 2K5 is much better than Madden 06 and is only about $10 now. If you want something new however, go out and buy NCAA 06, also from EA, which runs circles around this year's Madden. Race for the Heisman and the presentation alone are well worth the money. Madden really needs to step up its game next year if they want to justify being the NFL exclusive for the next ten years.

Madden is all we get when it comes to licensed pro football, so I was expecting more. A franchise that became so enjoyable and successful like this one will incidentally force itself under a microscope to be revered or criticized when any radical change occurs. Despite a few faults, however, Madden NFL 06 is still a fantastic game, just not as much fun to play as it has been the last few years. For those gamers who only buy Madden as their one game a year, maybe this could be your favorite installment yet, but for everyone else, 2006 feels like a stutter step or experimental addition to the franchise that has failed to outdo itself for the first time in recent memory.

With every other pc football series dead and gone (anyone remember Front Page Sports: Football?) Madden NFL is not just the reigning king of PC football--it's the only option PC gamers have. But no matter how much the EA "haterade" seems to flow (especially following the publisher's exclusive licensing agreement with the NFL), it's hard to find fault with the Madden games. Unsurprisingly, Madden 06 is another deep, engrossing football simulator...with some extra features and a semi-irritating learning curve.

While this fact may be unsettling to some PC loyalists, Madden 06 PC atleast brings the latest EA branded NFL action on offer over to the PC, and while the game remains similar to 2005, there are quite a few impacting changes that add up, mainly in the "realistic gameplay" department, which is excellent to see. However, with that said, again we see some features missing from the PC version and you really have to wonder why considering it was yet again released after the console version - surely allowing plenty of time to add a few minor missing features. The simple fact is, besides the ability to change some visual quality settings such as detail and resolution and custom playbook/team options, EA aren't giving many reasons for gamers to continue playing Madden PC, and there hasn't been a "PC Only" feature added for years now.

Grafisch ziet het er in elk geval alvast bijzonder degelijk uit. Game modes zijn er ook genoeg. Er is echter één groot minpunt. Enkele seconden harde actie worden bijna altijd gevolgd door een filmpje. Terwijl iedereen flitsende actie verwacht wordt een wedstrijd van 4 keer 5 minuten op deze manier gerokken tot meer dan een uur.

Madden NFL 06 is nog steeds een killer van een footballgame, het blijft zelfs een van de beste uit het genre. Toch zijn we over deze aflevering 06 niet onverdeeld tevreden. Niet alle verbeteringen lijken met evenveel overtuiging uitgewerkt en dat zijn we van dit kwaliteitsikoon niet gewoon. Ook de veelbelovende superstar mode gaat wat ons betreft volledig onderuit.
