Dueling is nice, although sooner or later you might get bored and try to avoid most monsters roaming the overland map. You will notice that winning a duel against the monsters will provide:
1) New cards, as you win the ante. When you've defeated a high number of opponents, you will possibly receive more than one card.
2) Gems, money, food. This is depends on what kind of monster you win the duel against.
3) Dungeon, Castle or Treasure hints.
4) Duplicate cards. Certain opponents offer ie. Mind Stealer, will offer to duplicate an existing card in your deck. This is invaluable for extremely rare cards such as Mox cards.

Last but most important, every time you've defeated an opponent, that win will be recorded in your character sheet. When you've defeated a certain type of opponent 4 times or more, if you engage them in the overland travel map, they "surrender" to your might and offer the various "winnings" mentioned above instead of dueling with you. You still can duel with them anyway though. |
