И заслуга в этом не только авторов игры, Wizards of the Coast, но и всего коллектива программистов из MicroProse, и Сида Мейера, которого почему-то не включили в credits. But if the concept worked for trading cards, would it be the same with computer games. That's the question on which MicroProse and Wizards of the Coast worked on for over two years, the time necessary for the development of a computer version of the game that has just been released by MicroProse.

Komputerowy MAGIC THE GATHERING wciąga i fascynuje bogactwem świata kart, pięknymi na nich rysunkami i możliwością nieograniczonego eksperymentowania z tworzeniem nowych decków. Nim człowiek się spostrzeże, z wypiekami na twarzy zaczyna mówić i myśleć w dziwnym języku tej gry, opowiadając kumplom o ferst strajkach, tramplingach, interaptach i mana bernach.

Although the duel interface has a few glitches - the computer slows down dramatically when there are a lot of cards on the table and you can't turn off the rather annoying sound effects - the computerized version of Magic plays remarkably well. The game does not support multi-player, which is a huge disappointment. If the game had shipped with multi-player capability and the one-player adventure story was better developed, it would have been great. As it is, it's a good showing, but it has potential to be much more.

Versuchen Sie erst gar nicht, sich einzureden, daß die nächste Partie Ihre letzte sein könnte: das vorbildlich umgesetzte Kartenspiel-System der unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten taugt als vollwertiger Solitär-Ersatz gleichermaßen wie als Sparringspartner für Profis; letzte dürften sich allerdings maßlos über den nicht vorhandenen Multiplayer-Modus ärgern. Im Vergleich zu Acclaims Battlemage die klar bessere Alternative!

This translation looks beautiful, plays decently, and has all the qualities - except the ability to play with other humans - that made the card game a hit.

Hauptmanko aber ist, daß man von Anfang an Zugriff auf die gesamte Palette an Zaubern hat und verlorene Karten beim nächsten Spiel immer wieder auftauchen. Damit wird das Original seiner entscheidenden Stärken beraubt. Was übrig bleibt, ist ein nettes taktisches Kartenspiel, das im Laufe der Zeit aber schnell an Reiz verliert. Zum Austesten für echte Decks ist Magic - The Gathering ganz gut geeignet, als eigenständiges Spiel sticht es nicht.
