Computer Gaming World #147 October 1996:
[text overlayed on a picture of a hand pouring poison into one of three mugs of coffee]

A COMMENDABLE EFFORT. But we offer a more creative way to kill your co-workers.

Bungie introduces Marathon 2: Durandal, the highly addictive game for Windows 95 that gives you a variety of ways to kill back-stabbing co-workers and shallow friends. Wielding a tasty arsenal of weapons, you'll enjoy 27 cooperative levels of Marathon plus 13 levels designed just for netowkr carnage, such as Kill The Man With The Ball and King Of The Hill. Wired Magazine says: "Marathon comes on like a relentless fuel-injected nightmare." When you find yourself sitting in a puddle of your own bodily fluids unable to move or speak, you'll probably agree. Marathon 2: Durandal. How Will It Ruin Your Life?

Razor-sharp graphics, wicked-smooth speed, movement through multiple elevations with five degrees of freedom (looking up and down), 16-bit sound in active panning stereo (which gives cues to your location and situation), and the ambient sounds of howling winds and raging rivers that heighten the realism of outdoor and underwater environments are the high points of Marathon 2: Durandal.

Jaded gamers will appreciate features rare in the first-person genre: motion sensors, a realistic physics model, non-player characters that speak and fight with you, eight-player networkability, and network game scenarios like King of the Hill and Kill the Guy with the Ball which require more strategy and cunning than the standard network shootout.
