Mechwarrior fans its finally here, the long awaited MW4 Black Night expansion. This piece is a nice addition to the Mechwarrior saga and will have fans white knuckled and gasping for air in no time. The new expansion has brought us some new features that true mech jocks will absolutely love.

If only more polish and more extensive usage of secondary fiction were added to the single-player campaign (the solid briefings of MW3 and all those long streams of text from MW2) we would have been left with an astounding expansion pack, but as it is, I guess we'll just have to settle for a really damn good one. MechWarrior Vengeance is an awesome game as is, and Black Knight only makes it that much better. Buy it if you've got the original, and buy them both if you don't, you won't be disappointed. They accommodate all types of players and come highly Ivan recommended.

The most troubling thing about Mechwarrior 4: Black Knight is that it's priced like a full game rather than the "add-more" expansion pack it really is. Fans will want to take advantage of any in-store offers or sales they can find, it's certainly worth picking up if you've still got a yen for giant robot combat, but the money could be spent on something brand new if you're not that anxious to break out the year old Vengeance.

At $30, Black Knight may seem pricey for a traditional add-on. But given that it’s nearly as big as MW4, that’s a fair price. And it’s quite fun being “bad” for a change.

Betrayal. It's a nasty word, isn't it? Yet, in talking about any game that starts with the word "Mech", either Warrior or Commander, it's an essential one for the story. You know how it goes: you, as a betrayed heroic figure on your way to a quick morning betrayal, pop into a café for a quick snack and a betrayal and are promptly betrayed.

Especially now that EA and Kesmai's BattleTech 3025 is looking like it may never see the light of day, there's all the more reason why players itching for more mech combat might as well get Black Knight, if not because it's a good add-on to a great game, then because there's no alternative.

Once you play, it’ll be obvious that the new mechs that they’ve added with the Black Knight pack are excellent choices, ones that really add to the flavor and choices you have at your disposal. The biggest flaws come in the storyline and lack of new material, this game really fails to add anything interesting to the MechWarrior universe. Assuming that the first game ended poorly, your missions as a Black Knight Legionnaire take you back to Kentares IV to fight the newly elected Ian Dresari. Apparently, unlike your experiences in MechWarrior 4: Vengeance, Ian is just a bumbling idiot who inflicted pain and suffering on the people in the wake of the recent civil war. If you enjoyed the first storyline, you’ll probably hate this one.
