Like
Rome: Total War you manage your cities and move around your units on a world map in a turn-based mode to conquer new cities or defeat enemies threatening your land. You always need to watch after your people to avoid them get angry with you and start a revolution. You also need to fulfill goals set by your religious leader like going on a crusade for the Pope.
When a battle starts and you do not want the CPU to calculate the ending, the game switches to a full 3D battlefield where you command your units as squads in real-time. There you need to use tactics like sending the cavalry into the nearby woods for a surprise attack at the enemies' flanks and make use of the overall terrain like high grounds, which are good for bowman to overcome the enemy. You also have to conquer enemy castles or successfully defend yours.
If you have mastered the single-player campaign, up to 8 players can go head to head in multiplayer matches.
