Meridian 59

Meridian 59 är inte något du ska läsa om - det är något du ska uppleva. Tro mig, jag har inte haft så roligt med något liknande spel på många herrans år.

This game is simply outstanding. It blows away anything I have ever played in the way of RPGs. If you haven’t tried this game yet, you really need to. Download the demo and give it a try. Although, I will warn you that the demo can’t possibly prepare you for what lies ahead in the full version. The design of the game, the interaction with so many other players, and the constantly expanding world make this game a must for anyone who enjoys role-playing games or 3D adventure. This is definitely one game I will never stop playing. I’m really looking forward to the forthcoming update and to the new adventures that await. Naysayers are right to say that the latest incarnation of Meridian 59 is still little more than a graphically enhanced MUD, but that doesn't make it any less fun. Meridian 59: Revelation offers just the right elements to keep you playing a long time -- an intriguing world that is dangerous without being discouraging. Let's hope that this little corner of the online gaming universe doesn't get squeezed out by its bigger competitors. 3DO is still committed to enhancing the project and Renaissance, another update, is due to appear in early 1998. As it stands, the only drawback to Meridian 59 is the price.

Na gut, die Grafik ist nicht gerade ein Meilenstein der Rollenspielgeschichte. O.k., der Sound kann auch nicht als irrsinnig gut beschrieben werden. Aber das Gefühl, mit Hunderten echter Spieler in einer fiktiven Fanatsy-Welt zu leben, macht beides wieder wett. Meridian 59 könnte so schön sein, wenn es in Deutschland bezahlbar wäre.

Taking a free Internet game, tarting it up bit and then flogging it for a small fortune sounds like marketing genius. So, rounds of applause to 3DO, then, because this is exactly what they've done with Meridian 59. If you've ever had the facilities and staying power to play a MUD, skip to paragraph three now.

Chances are you haven't played anything quite like Meridian 59 before. If you can swallow your pride and accept its meager aesthetics for what they are, and if you're willing to use your imagination with your games just like you did in the heyday of computer RPGs, then you will find the world of Meridian to be a most enriching place. The smart, sophisticated audience of this game makes for intriguing company, and in light of the small fee required to play, you can take all the time you wish to get to know it.
