Moto Racer 3

Die Moto-Racer-Serie hat sich im Laufe ihrer Geschichte stark gewandelt. War der erste Teil mit seinen Mann-gegen-Mann-Asphaltrennen noch eine Art Need for Speed auf zwei Rädern, so ist der dritte Teil ein Streifzug durch fast alle Sportarten, die mit motorisierten Zweirädern zu tun haben. Zum Einfahren bietet sich der "Tempo" genannte Rennmodus an, in dem 15 Fahrer auf Strecken wie dem Sachsenring um die Wette fahren. Sogleich zeigt sich, dass Moto Racer 3 keinerlei Ambitionen hat, eine Simulation zu sein: Ein Nitro-Booster sorgt für atemberaubende Beschleunigungen, die Konkurrenten schubsen sich gerne gegenseitig von der Fahrbahn und ein Schadensmodell sucht man vergebens.

Weniger ist manchmal mehr und das gilt auch für Moto Racer 3. So toll es im ersten Moment auch sein mag, gleich in fünf komplett unterschiedlichen Spielmodi an den Start zu gehen: Richtig perfekt ist keiner von ihnen. Die nur kurzzeitig unterhaltsamen Straßen- und Motorradrennen sind nicht viel mehr als eine nette Zugabe und den gelungenen Motocross-/Supercross-Modi mangelt es für eine bessere Wertung schlichtweg am spielerischen Feintuning. Motorradfans und begeisterte Biker des Vorgängers werden aber auf ihre Kosten kommen.

Moto Racer 3 hätte in allen Belangen Spitze sein können - Potenzial hat es wahrlich genug. Doch das Resultat riecht für mich sehr stark nach Weihnachts-Schnellschuss: Statt einer freien Joystick-Belegung muss ich umständlich per Tastenkombination durch vier fertige Muster blättern. Die starre Auflösung darf ich nicht verändern. Dabei macht das Spiel teilweise einen Hidenspaß: Besonders die Trial- und Verkehrs-Modi spielen sich herrlich unverbraucht. Na ja, vielleicht klappt's dann ja auch beim vierten Teil...

Moto Racer 3 successfully combines five extremely unique motorcycle disciplines into one convenient package and delivers a substantial helping of thrills and spills. However, it is not nearly as deep as it initially appears or as sophisticated as a third installment should be. Nor does it offer an online matchmaking service or dedicated server for multiplayer competition, relying instead on eight-player LAN and old-school Internet TCP/IP connections, whereby you must know your partner's locations beforehand. For these reasons, Moto Racer 3 may hold more appeal for motorcycle newcomers and younger audiences than seasoned veterans.

Moto Racer 3 slaagt erin om vijf unieke en toch wel sterk verschillende takken van de motorsport te combineren in één game. Je haalt er heel wat kicks en fun uit, maar het haalt het enkel op variatie van de concurrentie. Af en toe lijkt het game ons wat gehaast en onafgewerkt klaargestoomd, maar waneer je over de motorcrosstracks raast, zal je dat allemaal een zorg zijn.

Finally, the game lacks any day/night effects, and very little lighting effects other than stadium lights. Surfaces aren't reflective (aside from your windscreen) either, which tends to make things look a bit flat. With no day/night effects, the same old tracks always look the same way.

Vill du ha ett renodlat motorracerspel är Superbike tipset för dagen, vill du ha ett utmärkt motocrossspel är Motocross Madness 2 utan tvekan spelet för dig. Vill du däremot ha lite av båda delarna (lite sämre delar naturligtvis men där helheten ändå blir tillfredsställande) då är Motoracer 3 trots allt ett godkänt alternativ.

So when all is said and done, well, all is said and done. There's multiplayer support and a few people online to play, but for the most part, there isn't going to be too much to hold your interest. There aren't enough tracks, and the ones that are there are long enough to warrant there being so few, especially when you take into account the lack of options for weather and other track variables. The controls and physics are almost too arcadey, which is odd coming from me, and you never have any real motivation to do better than your previous efforts in the game.

En définitive, voilà un beau cadeau de Noël avec des circuits absolument jubilatoires (le trafic en mode duel avec un autre humain !), pour lequel la note « moyen » vient sanctionner le relatif manque d'égard dont a fait preuve Electronic Arts (si c'est bien la cause du manque de finalisation)... On attend les (hypothétiques ?) patchs !

Chances are if you have a decent PC you will want to add this to your library. Normally on a console I would say to rent, but as you know that’s not possible with PC software. So download the demo and if you like it. You will enjoy the game for hours to come.

I really wanted this game to work, I tried all my tweaks, but to no avail, all I got was lame arcade sounds, choppy Gameplay, and so so graphics, not the photorealistic they claimed. Top end systems may not have the problems I had with this game, but we all can't afford new comps, now can we? I do have some upgrades to my system planned, but on this system as it is now, this game was a disappointing experience.

Un titre en demi teinte et qui a bien du mal à se tenir à la hauteur de ses ambitions. Les motards dans l'âme risquent d'être déçus par les faibles sensations procurées par les modes de jeux alors qu'au niveau graphique on s'attendait à bien mieux. Dommage...
